Universal Studios Orlando to raise ticket prices

In a suprise move today, Universal Studios Orlando is raising their ticket prices. Sea World Orlando raised ticket prices several weeks ago, but the raise went unmatched by Universal and WDW. Disney is currently not commenting on when prices may be increased, if at all.

Universal matches SeaWorld
By Robert Johnson

Walt Disney World is now the cheapest theme park game in town.

Effective today, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure is matching SeaWorld's price increase in January by raising the single-day adult admission $2 to $49.95 before tax.

Disney World is continuing to hold the line at $48 before tax. Spokesman Craig Dezern would not comment on when Disney World's four theme parks may follow the competition on prices, although he said he isn't expecting an increase in the next few days.

But whatever it does, this is the first year in many that the Big Three haven't raised ticket prices all at once. Since 1993, Disney World and Universal have raised ticket prices within a few days of each other and sometimes on the same day. Last year, for the first time, SeaWorld was the first to raise its prices, followed quickly by Disney and Universal.

And SeaWorld led this year's price increase by jumping out in front on Jan. 23.

Universal spokesman Jim Canfield said the higher prices at his parks reflect rising costs. He pointed out that despite the increase for one-day tickets, Universal still offers Florida residents -- a major market for the attraction, especially on weekends -- an unrestricted annual pass for $159.95 plus tax.
