We had no problem when we had a 'split stay'. We went from Contemporary to Wildnerss Lodge in about an hour - really. We checked out of Contemporary took our bags with us - We did splurge on a taxi for the trip over to WL - checked into WL about 9AM and our room was ready!! Took our luggage up and off we were to the parks. It was early December and not a crowded time of year, so maybe this made it easier, but we had no problems.
My original plan was to have Disney transfer our luggage over and we would go to the parks and come back to WL around 3pm, check in, get our luggage and then go off again. But when I woke up that morning I thought I would rather know that our luggage was already at WL and we would at least be checked in. We could always come back to see what room we were assigned later. It all worked out.
