I can't answer your questions, but I don't think you're at all an overprotective mom! Internet stalking and pedophilia is a very real danger and I think your concern is merited and should be the standard for parents today.
I haven't joined the VMK site personally because there are very few websites I trust to have my personal information. I also don't like to download anything if I don't have to, because, these days, there always seems to be something "unsavory" attached to everything!
Well done, you, for asking these questions. Your son is a lucky kid to have a mom like you!
