We bought into SSR last week and I can tell you that the going rate is $98 per point but Disney has a deal going on now that reduces the rate to $90 a point. In May of last year the rates were $89 per point for SSR. We did self financing and used part of a Home Equity line of credit so the interest is tax deductable. Seeing how much we spent on our vacation made this all the more easy, and we used my AP discount. With 2 children a hotel room is just not big enough and staying inside the park - you get almost all the benefits of being a Disney Hotel guest - is way better than staying outside the park (we stayed off site in a house the first of our two weeks). We have enough points (250) to stay the entire month of January in a one bedroom with a pull out queen-size bed in the living room at SSR. AH, a little privacy, and our own TV at night.
