It's always been done at Le Chapeau with a commercial stitching machine. It was hand driven by someone at the shop.
I think some of the newer locations do it with a computer driven machine.
As for personalization of Christmas ornaments, now that we're into the holiday season, you should expect a 24-48 hour turnaround time at MK and a 2-3 day turnaround at DTD. They will direct ship to your house (or also ship to your room if you're there that long)

I knew I never saw them do it by hand! But then again, I've only been going since 1997. However, even though it's a machine, the MK shop (Le Chapeau) still uses the hand driven stitching machine, if I am not mistaken. At least it was last October when we went.
And Christmas Ornament personalization could take even LONGER than 48 hours! I found this out the hard way...I bought my ornament 3 days before we were leaving and they couldn't do it in time. They had to ship it to my house. And then when it got there, it came broken. Luckily they sent out a replacement right away. They're good about that!
