I stayed at Raratonga long house a few years. For convenience its great, right next to the GCH, close walk to the monorail and bus stop, and very close to the volcano and quiet pools.
Did you request a handicapped room? I just found this phone number on the Disney World web site under "Guest With Disabilities", Special Reservations Line: (407) 939-7807† - option 1. May be if you call this number they can help you out.
By the way, you and your family will love the Polynesian, it is a fabulous resort.
