Oh Valerie I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your MIL. My heart goes out to you and your DH - I hope that this move and a chance of pace will heal all!
I second Bella's suggestion to stay in an extended stay motel while you look for a place to live. They are not ideal price-wise, but it is certainly better than having nowhere to go, or shelling out money for a motel that charges nightly rates!
DH and I did this both times we moved to California, and it worked well for us. (We had a lot of fun feeling like we were kind of still "on vacation" while we were staying at the extended stay place too.
)
