I want to go Aug 15-17 . . . so could I use them and then pay the rest out of pocket . . . or is this something a DVC member needs to use?

Right now as a passholder for that weekend I can get a studio at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa OR Disney's Old Key West Resort with the dining plan for the 3 of us for $509.65?
NOT SURE THIS IS A GOOD DEAL . . . again I know nothing about these resorts or points!
