Well, that was the original intention. The idea was to have a supply of "extra" rooms, so that the extras could be renovated and refurbished off-site, and then trucked to the Contemporary. The old rooms would then be slid out of their openings, the new rooms slid in, and the refurbishment would be complete with little down-time. Room units would be continually rotated in and out using this method.
Unfortunately, the steel frame of the Contemporary has settled over time in the swampy Florida soil and basically locked the original room units in place, making them no longer removable without completely destroying them. Rumor has it that the extra rooms were later used to build the two Garden wings (one of which is now gone and is the site of the new Bay Lake Tower), but I've never been able to confirm this.
