Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
Taking my sister to Disney World and she has undergone gastric bypass surgery and can not eat over a few bites at a meal. Anyone have any experience with this and Disney restaurants. Can she accompany my wife and I and not order (she has a card explaining her situation)?

Re: Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
I am certain that WDW would be more than understanding about her current medical situation. Unless there is a "no sharing" policy at that paticular place, then I see no reason at all why she would *have* to order anything. People share meals all the time at WDW...the portions, as you know, are huge. No worries, my friend. Bring the card anyway. It can't hurt and only help if you find it necessary to prove her condition. I can't imagine a CM saying anything. That would be beyond rude. WEll wishes to your DS on a speedy recovery and congrats on her new lease on life. Make sure she gets the go ahead from her doctor on all possible attractions etc. I dont' know what the recovery directions are for that surgery, but it can't hurt to keep her doctor informed and get his/her opinion.

Re: Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
The only places where it might make a difference is those restaurants where characters are at and there is a per person charge to go. Most of those serve buffet or family style, so the sharing is discouraged and the fee for the meal is charged per person at the table. You may have to check on whether they would make special accomodation, in the case of your DS special situation. It can never hurt to ask. I don't think that I would want to pay $21.95 for a meal that I am only going to eat 3 bites of, I mean character interaction is wonderful, but it isn't really worth that much.
This is part of the reason that we do not do breakfast character meals, because we only eat a minimal amount for breakfast and while the character interaction is wonderful, I am not going to pay that price for a meal that I am really not going to eat. My dd has already stated that she would rather see the characters at lunch or dinner rather than breakfast, so we skip the breakfast character meals and head straight for the parks.

Re: Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
My friend had gastric bypass surgery last year, and when we went to DL they didn't give us any problems. She did however show her card to be on the safe side. We did Goofy's kitchen and they were understanding. I would think it just depends on where you go and who you are dealing with. For the most part, her experience was pleasent.

Re: Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
Disney is more than happy to make accomadations for people with gastric bypass surgery. That is true at any restaurant according to the Passporter (a guidebook) for people with special needs. After reading that book, I don't think there's any special need that Disney won't accomadate.
She will need her card and possibly a note from her dr. But even the buffets are willing to make pricing changes for peope in this situation and I think, according to the Passporter, this includes character meals

Re: Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
My DS is just picky and we have been to many WDW restaurants where he didn't eat. At CRT we were charged full price twice for him not to eat. I expected that, it's so popular. At Liberty Tree Tavern and Chef Mickey's he didn't eat and we weren't charged. The servers were really nice about it, I explained up front that he wouldn't be eating and they seemed fine with that. Any order off the menu restaurant should be no problem.

Re: Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
Most restaurants allow adults to order off the children's menu without question. And at the buffets they will allow her to pay for a children's meal with the card.

oh thats a good way of doing it, just pay children's price.
My mum and I 90% of the time order off children's menus at DL places, it's never been a problem, we both just have smaller appitites.

Re: Disney restaurants after gastric bypass
Mikey... I have a friend whose son is severely allergic to practically all foods. It's incredible, the list of foods he can't eat. Anyway, they had a trip to WDW planned, and she made a call and got in touch with a WDW CM who personally took the time to create entire menus for the little boy at all his PS restaruants, and at his hotel. In fact, she even arranged for anyone who touched his food to wear gloves made of some material other than latex, since latex is one of his allergies!
So, I bet if you arrived at the restaurants and told them you have some special requests, I bet they would get you set up EXACTLY as you'd like!!! Good luck!
