Yes, I hope they can at least prescribe her something to keep her as comfortable as possible. What a bummer!

Re: DD allergic to the sun!

Well, I sent WDW an email about a week or so ago asking for what they would suggest. I got back a computer generated reply "Thanks for your Comments . If necessary, a CM will contact you by phone." So far, no phone call. I guess one small girl isn't a big concern of theirs. We have found that the heat is actually worse than the sun, as we went to a local waterpark on a sunny day and was fine as long as she was splashing around in the cool water. We will let you all know what WDW says when we get there. If they won't allow her to use fastpass ,I'm hoping they will say come back at such and such a time and then let her right in. That way we could wait in a cooler area.

Re: DD allergic to the sun!

Could it be that it's just the heat and not the sun? I have a very wierd condition called cold urticaria, that flares up every once in a while. It's an allergic reaction to cold. If I touch a cold soda can etc, my palms get all red and itchy. At first they had to see if it was a reaction to cold water, or just cold (since most cold cans have condensation it could have been either). Turns out it is just cold.

Re: DD allergic to the sun!

Try finding a summer thermal, used for outdoor sports. It keeps the cool air in while covering up her arms/legs.

Re: DD allergic to the sun!

I'm sure you've thought of this already, but are you sure it's a problem with the sun? Have you tried keeping track of her diet, to see if any particular food(s) trigger her rash?

I'd suggest seeing a dermatologist (Derms), because if it is the sun, I think a Derms is better trained to treat this problem. A Derms office should have brochures (mine does) on where you can purchase clothing specially made for those with sun sensitivity. There are also hats specially treated for sun sensitivity.

I wish you luck. If you need to locate a place to order the clothing, pm me and I'll look for the brochure and will send you contact info. (I've never ordered the clothing because I'm not that sun-sensitive. However, with my history of skin cancer, I've just learned to live with hats and long sleeved linen shirts. I love linen anyway.)

Re: DD allergic to the sun!

When we went in January it was not as bad as when we went in August, but she still gets this red hivey looking rash on her face, neck and arms. It isn't sunburn, we put sunsreen on her. Any place exposed gets the hives looking rash, though it doesn't itch like hives. She says it burns. It doesn't seem to get on her legs though, which I think is weird. I make sure she wears a hat and just try to limit the amount of time we are in the sun.

I have the exact same thing!!! I break out in hives basically if cold air hits my skin. It's so annoying.

Just saw this. Lil' has allergic reactions to the sun. She did not develope them until adulthood. She gets an uncomfortable rash and sunscreen doesn't help much.

Did you try a shade umbrella? That is probably your best bet, short of covering up.

OMG - it's so nice hearing there are other people with this. My family was calling me a medical freak for a while, until MIL started devloping it too. Right now I'm OK - no problems, but there are some times when I have to start wearing a hat and gloves every morning in September. I have a picture of me & the kids at a Halloween parade. Everyone else is wearing light jackets and I have on a hat and gloves!

Re: DD allergic to the sun!

My wife just went to a DERM this year. My wife thought that she was allergic to types of sunscreen or sunblocks. The DERM said to try each type of sunblock and sunscreen for a few days under a bandaid. If she breaks our, it's not the sun... because the sun didn't burn her under the bandaid. If she was clear... it was probably the sun.
There are many ingredients in sunscreen and sunblock that you may be allergic to. Good luck and don't let it keep you from Disney.
