Icon5 CPAP machine?

I just found out that I have sleep apnea. The reason I have been so tired all the time and irritable is because I stop breathing about 140 times per hour! It's like someone poking you with a stick every 20 seconds. Anyway, I got this CPAP machine which blows air down my nose and mouth and keeps my airway open. (DH calls it my Darth Vadar mask). The difference in my energy level is amazing. I finally feel rested. The machine needs distilled water to function and since I don't want to lug a gallon with me, is there anywhere on site to buy it. It is going to be bad enough to lug the machine. Any ideas??

Re: CPAP machine?

Wow! I can't help much--you could stop by Publix on your way and stock up--but I just wanted to say I'm so glad you've figured this out! That's a really scary disease!

Re: CPAP machine?

In a pinch you could use any bottles water, but I know I have heard of pharmacies that will deliver to your resort. I am sure they would be able to sent you a gallon of it. Or go to walmart on your way there. I have never seen any but the usual bottles water in the theme parks. The reason the CPAP machine needs or recommends distilled water is that tap water and sometimes bottled water(especially if it is from a spring has minerals in it). Over time these will leave deposits in the CPAP tubing clogging it up. In the short term though it is not really a problem.

Re: CPAP machine?

HI,
My husband also suffers from severe sleep apnea. He travels with his CPAP, he carrys it on the plane in a carry on. He also keeps a power strip to use in the hotel in case there is a shortage of outlets. We just add a gallon of distilled water to our grocery delivery while at WDW. In a pinch use tap water. The CPAP has made such a huge difference in his life!

Re: CPAP machine?

I'm going to use gardengrocer.com. They don't have distilled water listed. Do you think I could just ask them to add it???

Re: CPAP machine?

Absolutely. A grocery store should carry it.

And I agree, using tap water short term is no problem either.

Another option would be to bring just a small bottle with you on the plane. How long does it take you to go through, like a pint?

Re: CPAP machine?

I am embarrassed to say this, but I thought your title read "CRAP machine" LOL OM I am slow today. I am so sorry you are having this problem, but am glad that your vader mask is giving you relief. I have no experience with this, so I have no advice to offer you.

Re: CPAP machine?

I haven't read all of the above posts but I remembered that the Passporter had something about Wheelchair rentals from OFF-Site. So I looked it up and there are two medical supply companies that deliver stuff to the resorts. Here are their numbers and their web sites, maybe they can help you to get the distilled water. Also try to see if the resort can accommodate you. I am sure they have had this question before.

Care Medical (800) 741-2282 or http://www.caremedicalequiptment.com or Walker Mobility (888) 726-6837 or Orlando wheelchair and scooter rentals-serving all Central Florida attraction areas-Disney, Universal Studios, Sea World, Kissimmee-Walkermobility.com (this one might be strictly for wheelchairs but its worth a try!

Good luck and I am happy to hear you have a new lease on life!

Re: CPAP machine?

Order online and have the water and some groceries delivered directly to your hotel room... Someone will surely post a link or two to places... I used a service last year...but darn if I can remember the name!

My mom also just got this machine... How long have you had it? She has had hears about 10 days... she is already sleeping better. She also stopped breathing that much...she went to three sleep studies and they said she had severe sleep apnea... She said that using the machine can add ten years to your life! More time at Disney World!

I think I need this machine too! :) (or maybe i just need my kids to stop waking me up at night! If it is not one kid, it's another... or this week its the dog who had to have emergency surgery today - she's okay - thankfully.)

I think there is a pharmacy on property somewhere...if not, it is right across from the marketplace... Most towncar services from the airport will do a grocery stop.

Re: CPAP machine?

That's it... wegoshop....we used them last year! I'd call the hotel manager...s/he may also may be able to help you out... it's kind of a simple request... I know they have a shopping service that will stock DVC homes with some groceries upon arrival... perhaps they can help out with medically necessary requests too?
