I am interested in knowing if I can leave my wheel chair at the rides and pick it up after the ride.
Also if anybody knows if there is a dialysis site near wdw for my hubby.

Re: disabilities

The answer to your first question is yes, for the most part. You will be able to leave your chair at the point where you get on the ride and it will find you at the end. Sometimes if mobility is too much of an issue you can leave it at the entrance to a ride with all the stollers. Some attractions also have ride vehicles that are equipped to handle a wheelchair! For example you can just roll or wheel right on to one of the Clam-mobiles in Nemo's UnderSea Adventure!

I hope that helps!

Re: disabilities

Have you thought about calling your resort about the dialysis. They might be able to help you out find a place if they do not have one on site.

Re: disabilities

all the CM were wonderfull helping with the wheelchair last time we went my DH had a flare up and needed one for a few days. they made sure he got on the ride and the wheelchair magically appeared when we got off. they also let him bypass lines and get directly on so he didnt have to stand for long times he normally walks with a cane and the made sure he had it the minute we stepped off the ride they were so good aobut making him feel comforta ble and not calling alot of attention.

Most rides are wheelchair accessible. I remember waiting in line for some ride... can't remember what, but a family with like 12 people comes walking up, pushing a little kid sitting on his knees in a wheelchair (like as a substitute for a stroller), and asks where the wheelchair entrance was. I couldn't help but laugh when the ride attendant told them that the ride was wheelchair accessible and that they could just get in the regular line.

Hi Mabra, and welcome to MB!

You can find a lot of great information here: Freewheelin' Disney

and did you know there is a special guidebook just for WDW guests with disabilites? They address all kinds of issues there. PassPorter's Walt Disney World for Your Special Needs

I bet this poor kid has physical challenges that require a wheelchair -- not all limitations are obvious. And I'd always ask about a wheelchair entrance. Isn't it wonderful that WDW makes it as convenient as possible to take EVERYONE to the parks?

That is so terrific! Can you tell me, had you been to WDW without the wheelchair before, and if so, how much more difficult was it with the chair? If we take our whole family again, it will likely be with one wheelchair or a scooter this time, and I was curious about which to get. I think the independence of the scooter might be good.

Re: disabilities

This will be my mothers 3rd trip with the family, she is 80 now. The first year she had difficute walking for too long, she had a walker. The second time she had to use a wheel chair, we went to wheel chair entrance most of the time we are a group of 16-18 family members.
WE try to go to WDW every 2 years the families go together stay together in the same hotel. . The only ride that did not let us stay together was Haunted Manison. The young woman caused a scene and upset my daughter (because 3 of her children had gotten separated from us) The woman slammed down her clip board and started hollering at my daughter, next thing we knew Security gaurds showed up. They wanted to throw my daughter out of the park.
A gentlman that witness the whole thing said the young woman was way out of line. The next day my daughter had to miss out going to a park with her family. The whole thing had upset her, she has high blood pressure and suffers from seizures. She spent the whole day in bed.
We are going this Novermber as a family again 16 going this time. But this year I (age 63) will need a walker or wheel chair, I have neuropathy (can't walk or stand too long) So I am curious on how we will be treated with 16, and 2 wheel chairs.

I had an ECV (scooter) last May and it was great. I'm one of the not-so obvious wheelchair people, I'm 37 , appear perfectly healthy but have Lupus and can't walk for extended periods of time. That ECV made my whole trip possible. Busses were convenient to get on, some rides let you in on them and you can wait in most ride cues in them. I rented from an outside company and had it for the whole week, very convenient.

Re: disabilities

Did you ever find a dialysis site for your husband? I am curious to know if you can find one close by and how you arrange that. Your regular dialysis clinic may be able to help you. I bet you will need to take his records and maybe even physicians orders, depending on the clinic. Good luck getting all your ducks in a row!!

Re: disabilities

There is a hospital nearby that does Dialysis - my grandmother looked into it for herself when she came down in May. I believe it was in celebation, but I will double check with her...
