I really need advice

My parents are wanting to go to DW. They have not been since the late 70's when there was only 1 park. However, DF is 76 and DM 74. DF had 3 heart stints put in a few weeks ago and DM is a survivor of pancreatic cancer( ) I would love for them to experience DW but it worries me. They want to go when we go in Oct. Should I encourage them or not? Any suggestions to make theings easier, precautions to take, I really could use some advice here. Thanks!

IMHO yes you should .. sure your going to have to take it a bit slower then you normally would ..sit down more often .. maybe get them the scooter things ? I know that you can rent them from Randy's mobility

If it were me, I would encourage them. If this is what they want, they should do it.

I would have them check with their Doctor before they go.

I would recommend they spend several days there so they can go back to their room in the afternoon, or during rainstorms, and still not feel rushed. Also, a room at a Disney resort that is near the bus stops and restaurants.

It sounds like they've been through so much, they deserve this trip!

They should definetly go!! They have survived so much that they probably want to relish life now with a new perspective. YOu may have to take it slower but it will be great. A close friend of our family had a stroke and heart attach all withine one year last year and she went with the church senior group in May to the Holy Land Experience and had a blast. I think it would be exciting and great to share with such wonderful people.
My grandmother went on her first cruise with first plane trip at the age of 84!!! They will definetly surprise you.

Let me put it this way. My DM past away last October. When we went last July she mentioned how much she would like to go to but it was way to hot when we go in July. If I had it to do over I would have gone during the cooler months so she could have joined us! If they want to go and can make t he trip do it. It will be memories that you will cherish forever! Like Willbegone aid you'll probably have to take it alittle slower then usual but it will defiently be worth it!

I agree with all the others. Definately get them to check with their Dr. and go during the cooler & slower months. Jan IMO is the perfect time to go. Extremely low crowds and delightful weather. Some eary mornings and nights can get a little chilly but a jacket is all you'll need. Plus the parks close early so you're not there past 7PM anyway... unless you're at Epcot. I think everyone should have at least one WDW experience in their lifetime regardless of their age!

I agree with the others.....take it slower....and encourage them to join you! I would give my eye teeth if my parents and I could experience DW together.......Heck....I would be happy if my parents could just go to Mc Donald's with us....but.....they have moved to Heaven.....

Thanks everyone. I took my Mom a copy of Birnbaulm's book. I have the Unofficial Guide too but I thougt the size of it might scare her off! Your comments have really encouraged me to encourage them after all there should be no age limit on magical times!
