Places to beat the Heat at WDW

Where are some of the places you go to "beat the heat"? As you may know...my son can't handle the heat w/his meds, so we have been trying to find cool places to rest/walk while at WDW.

*One thing we do as we are walking in or our of the parks, is walk in the stores down Main Street and MGM. They are airconditioned and we take our time, instead of being pushed to rush.

*Another thing we haven't tried yet is the 1st Aide/Baby care center. (We did use the baby center when my ds was a toddler). This would be a nice place to cool off and rest, away from the crowds.

*I love Epcot because of all the shows. My ds didn't get heated at all there, because we took in all the shows and shops along the way. They seemed to be spaced out almost perfectly!!

Any other good tips, suggestions? (Especially about AK, I'm leary about trying AK again...but we do love the show...too bad they are outside shows)

I have to admit I am still so unfamilar with AK, I have no idea. As I have posted before .. we stay lost there so much, we always seem to just circle the tree of life over and over. And I can not think of one single place there where you can get out of the heat. Hope someone else can post some suggestions for it.

I don't believe there is any place to cool down in the Animal Kingdom. It always feels a good 10º hotter in that park than anywhere else in WDW; I guess due to the lush vegetation of the park. The walkways are narrower, making them seem more congested than other parks. Even the shops are all open air stores.

The Animal Kingdom is much more enjoyable during the cooler months of the year.

I have to agree with the AK being hotter than the other parks. Like was mentioned previously there seems to be no place to escape the heat. We were there last week and it was HOT HOT HOT - at least in the other parks you can sit and have lunch inside or stop in the stores, but at AK everything is outside. My suggestion is to go 1st thing in the morning for a few hours and park hop to another park or go to the hotel for swimming!

But the Lion King show is definately a must see - probably the best show (in my opinion) at all the parks. It wasn't air conditioned but it is out of the sun (unlike the Pocahontas show) and seemed to be a bit cooler.

I found that the Conservation Station at Rafiki's Watch was a nice place to go cool down and the educational shows there are nice. The Train ride over there gets a little bit of a breeze as well. I will scope out any other places while I am there and report back. I am all about being cool as often as possible.

Ice Station Cool in Epcot is always a great place to cool off. It's really cold in there and sampling the free Coke drinks from other countries is fun. A couple of the drinks are pretty horrible, though.

I can only think of 2 places to get any kind of relief from the heat at AK. 1 is Rafiki's Planet Watch and the other is Rainforest Cafe (you can browse the gift shop if you don't want to eat).

Heather - since you have APs I would just go during the cooler months and not even try it when it is warm!

My family was at AK a few weeks ago, and the only places we found were Rafiki's Planet Watch which was very cool and the kids had fun especially at the sound booths, also there are a few shops between the Tree of Life and The safari that are airconditioned. They have the doors open, but it is cool inside. My DW knows I am not into shopping, but could not get me out of the shop one day when it was HOT:dazed . We went in the mornings and left the AK by 12:30 due to crowds, heat, my injured leg, and a 3 year old ready to blow because needing a nap.

Great ideas guys!! I forgot about Ice Cool Station...that was GREAT to go into to get cooled off.

We won't be going back during the hot months, but figured this might help some other people beat the heat. ( SO they don't have to go what i went through!!)

At MK, also going on the TTA is a nice break, but some of it is outside air you are getting.

MGM has a few inside shows that are great to take a break in, too.

The shops are the best way to cool off quickly. But for someone like my son, he needs the cool air, and a place to sit/lay down for awhile.

Keep the great ideas coming!!!

Which side of Main Street has the connected shops?

If I am facing the castle with my back to the main entrance, are the connected shops on my right or left?

Thanks!

With your Back to Main street...THe connecting stores are on the Left side, but there are stores on the right too that are connecting, w/one break outside, then back inside to connecting rooms.

The DINOSAUR ride is air conditioned at AK...if there is a line, you wait in the building that looks like a museum and it is nice and cool, as is the actual ride! :D

Kali River Rapids will cool anyone off quick! I do agree about Rafki too. The building there is almost cold and the train ride is soothing. Once you are in the Tree the Bug's Life movie is a nice place to be also.
