Icon8 The Proud Family--Rant

In my racial diverse home, we love finding cartoons featuring African-Americans.

So I'm royally miffed that we had to change the channel in the middle of Saturday morning cartoons because of the content of the Proud Family. The story line was the kids thought their dad was "cheating" on their mom.

Yes, the subject of a Disney Saturday morning cartoon was adultery/infidelity/sexual unfaithfulness.

What Disney exec thought this was a good idea?

That is just wrong for a Saturday morning cartoon!! There is no way that will ever be appropriate for kids.

We didn't. We just changed the channel.

BTW, what amazes me is the irrelevance of this topic. Yes, the divorce rate is 53% in this country. But studies have shown that infidelity occurs in less than 17% of all marriages. Hollywood presents it as an every-day occurance, but then Hollywood is out of touch from the rest of society.

Jeff...the divorce rate might be 53% but the numbers change if you take out the people that get divorced repeatedly. I can't remember the numbers but most people that are divorced have been divorced multiple times. The 53% number are raw numbers (marriages/divorces) but don't account for people that get divorced multiple times thus driving up the percent.

With that said I don't see why we need a saturday morning cartoon on the subject.

On the subject of cartoons and infidelity, if you watch the deleted scenes in The Incredibles DVD, they mention that they took out a scene that they felt dealt with that a little too much. They got the point across that Helen was concerned about Bob cheating in a much more subtle way that adults could pick up on but went over kids heads.

I can't understand it! THat's not even close to a kid subject :c(

I can't stand the Proud Family, anyway. That teenager is unruley. I've seen some disrespect I would never tolerate as a parent. Anyway, I made my kids change the channel ages ago with that cartoon.

What about Little Bill, Caver? Isn't that a decent show for a little guy?

I also do not let my children watch that show among others. Cartoons are not like they used to be

I realize that. In fact, I think the divorce rate for "remarrieds" jumps to around 75%. My point was maritial unfaithfulness occurs in less than 17% of marriages. I imagine that percentage is skewed in Hollywood, where celebrities change partners the way Erin changes her underwear (about once a month ).

But what is the Proud Family and other Hollywood shows teaching??? Men regularly cheat on their wives, and children should be suspect if their daddy's are acting odd.

And DON'T get me started on the way TV skews teenage sexuality!!!! (The reason we watch so little TV in the first place.)

Jeff, I totally agree with you...so there

It is hard to be a parent today...sad that Disney seems to not help at times.
