The Disney Store SOLD!

I was in the Disney Store and a customer was asking for a catalog, and the CM informed the customer that they no longer keep catalogs in the store (which I already knew) no more.
BUT what I didnt know is that the Children's Place store bought the Disney Store!!!

Ummm Whaaaaaaaaaaat? How can this happen???

Yes, this has been out for awhile now. I am still saddened by it. It's just not the same to me. they still have the disney merchandise, but it's just not disney anymore. I am glad they still have the passes and the disney dollars though. I look forward to making trips to the disney store to buy my disney dollars for upcoming trips...

so, the children's place now owns the disney store. will this affect the store at all? will they still be open?

It affects the stores in the fact that they sell less adult merchandise and gear everything mostly to kids, and not even bigger kids. My dd is 11 going on 12 and nothing in the stores anymore is geared towards her. I find that sad and really constricting. They are really restricting themselves in the marketplace. Disney appeals to more than just little kids.

the closest disney store to me is pretty much set up that way anyway. and it has been for a while. i remember it used to have a bit of adult clothes and older kids clothes but not it's just for i think under 10 year olds. i haven't gone in the disney store in a while because i walk out empty handed.

The Disney Store is a Division of the Disney corporation that has been for sale for awhile. It was for sale because it was costing the corp. money to maintain. Disney shot itself in the foot in that dept., because it sold it's brand to other low cost markets like Wal-mart and Target who could produce cheaper end goods that the Disney Store and people started going there instead of the D-store. So, thanks again to Mr. Eisner the store was put up for sale. The only stores that the Disney company still own are the World of Disney stores, all of the Disney stores were purchased by the children's PLace and they now sell the Disney store brand as well, but they sell to a very specific niche. Small children. They have completely cut out the adult market, which is sad to me. I don't want the cheap stuff that Wal-Mart has. I like the quality stuff that D-store had. So, this has been a sad transition to me, and thank you Mr. Eisner for making it all happen - and once again cheapening the Disney brand.

How can they sell merchandise that Disney also sells and is the same???

Should I buy all my costumes online now as opposed to the Disney Store??

They (Wal-Mart and Target, etc.) don't sell the exact same merchandise, just Disney branded merchandise. There is a difference. Yes, you now have to buy your costumes online if you want true Disney merchandise, because Disney itself maintains the website. They even changed the address when the sale went through. It is not Disney store.com anymore. I just go to the Disney website and click on the link to get there now.

Yes, but the Disney store sells the exact same costumes for Halloween as they do online??
That's what I don't understand!
Only change is my store doesn't sell Adult costumes anymore.
BUT they do sell Adult merchandise, like t-shirts, sweat shirts, pajamas,etc..

They also sell the Disney tickets too!
And a few planning books like Birnbaums,etc...

This is why Iam so confused!

Yep! I just went to the website. It's still Disney-owned.

I use to love our local Disney Store. Now, DW & I avoid it.
