THIS WEEK IN DISNEY HISTORY
June 17, 1943 - Singer-songwriter Barry Manilow is born in Brooklyn, New York. He will go on to co-write the musical score for Disney's 1988 animated feature "Oliver & Company."

June 18, 1959 - Disney's "Eyes in Outer Space" is released in theaters. The combination live-action and animated program explains the future of satellites' ability to forecast and control the weather.

June 22, 1970 - The Walt Disney Archives is established.

THIS WEEK IN DISNEY HISTORY
June 24, 1956 - Walt Disney appears on Ed Sullivan's 8th Anniversary Show. Walt, along with Ronald Reagan, Natalie Wood, Robert Walker, Lucille Ball, and Desi Arnaz, sing "Happy Anniversary" in a tribute to Sullivan.

June 26, 1957 - Disneyland's Viewliner debuts. The system is made up of two narrow gauge, miniature trains that operate alongside the Disneyland Railroad main line. The Viewliner is billed by Disneyland as "the fastest miniature train in the world."

June 28, 1999 - At Disneyland, a Main Street Window is dedicated to the former Chairman of Walt Disney Attractions, Dick Nunis. Mr. Nunis and Mickey Mouse ride out from the gate in a little blue motorcar while the Disneyland Band plays "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah."

July 1, 1946 - Original Mouseketeer Karen Pendleton is born in Glendale, California.

July 3, 1994 - "The Lion King" soundtrack hits #1 on the Billboard chart, where it will stay for nine consecutive weeks.

July 7, 1998 - Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" plays its 1,762 performance on Broadway, becoming the longest-running show ever at the Palace Theater in New York City!

HIS WEEK IN DISNEY HISTORY
July 9, 1938 - Tony Award-winning actor Brian Dennehy, the voice of Django in Disney·Pixar's 2007 "Ratatouille," is born in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

July 10, 1981 - Disney's animated "The Fox and the Hound" premieres in U.S. theaters. It features the voices of Jack Albertson, Pearl Bailey, Sandy Duncan, Corey Feldman, Kurt Russell, Paul Winchell, and Mickey Rooney.

July 13, 1995 - Disney's "Pocahontas" soundtrack reaches #1 on the Billboard chart, knocking off Michael Jackson's album HIStory.

July 24, 1936 - Comedic actress Ruth Buzzi is born in Westerly, Rhode Island. Buzzi's Disney credits include "The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again," "It's Tough to Be a Bird," and the original version of "Freaky Friday."

July 25, 1959 - The Ernest S. Marsh locomotive (Engine No. 4) takes its inaugural run around Disneyland at the hands of Chief Engineer Walt Disney.

July 26, 1986 - The Disney Channel film "The Parent Trap II," a made-for-TV sequel to "The Parent Trap," debuts.

July 29, 1922 - The first Laugh-O-gram cartoon "Little Red Riding Hood" is released. A silent black & white short, it is written, produced, and directed by Walt Disney and animated by Rudolph Ising.

July 30, 1998 - The Disney Magic, first ship in the Disney Cruise Line's fleet, began its maiden voyage.

August 3, 2001 - Disney's romantic comedy "The Princess Diaries," starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, opens in theaters.

August 12, 1929 - Walt Disney is granted a trademark for the use of the image of Mickey Mouse in motion pictures.

August 14, 1945 - Comedy writer/stand-up comedian-turned-actor/director Steve Martin is born. Martin's first after-school job was selling guidebooks at Disneyland. He later worked at Merlin's Magic Shop on Main Street.

August 16, 2007 - The United States Post Office debuts a new set of four 41-cent Disney character stamps.

August 21, 1956 - Actress Kim Cattrall, who appears in Disney's 2005 "Ice Princess," is born in Liverpool, England.

August 23, 1997 - The Disney Channel Original Movie "Northern Lights," starring Diane Keaton, debuts. It is the first film to be called a Disney Channel Original Movie as prior to this, movies were called Disney Channel Premiere Films.

September 10, 1958 - Actor Dan Castellaneta is born in Chicago, Illinois. Castellaneta provided the voice of the Genie in Disney's "The Return of Jafar" and the television show "Aladdin."

September 11, 1968 - The United States Postal Service pays tribute to Walt Disney with the release of a commemorative 6-cent postage stamp.

September 14, 1993 - The all-new Mickey Mouse Club make their recording debut with the release of their self-titled album "MMC."

September 17, 1961 - The Emmy Award-winning series "Walt Disney Presents" aired for the last time. The following week the series was be called "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color."

September 18, 1973 - Actor James Marsden is born in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He appeared as Prince Edward in Disney's 2007 feature "Enchanted."

September 19, 1989 - The Library of Congress selected "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" to be placed on the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or esthetically significant."
