THIS WEEK IN DISNEY HISTORY
June 27, 1938 - Actress and Disney Legend Kathryn Beaumont is born in London, England. Her Disney credits include "Alice in Wonderland" - as the voice of Alice, and "Peter Pan" - as the voice of Wendy.

June 29, 1908 - Disney Legend and artist John Hench is born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He will make pioneering contributions to such Disney films as "Fantasia" and "Dumbo", and become senior vice president at Walt Disney Imagineering.

July 1st 1975:
At Walt Disney World, the WEDway PeopleMover, a futuristic way of shuttling people around Tomorrowland, opens. It is located at Rockettower Plaza, where passengers enter and exit onto a circular moving platform. The ride is based on Disneyland's PeopleMover.

July 2nd 1967:
Disneyland's Rocket Jets, Peoplemover, the General Electric
Carousel of Progress, and the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant all open in
Tomorrowland. The Rocket Jets (a 12 two-person attraction) sits above the
PeopleMover in the Tomorrowland plaza area. The Peoplemover, a family
friendly attraction, offers a leisurley ride over Tomorrowland.

July 3rd 1947:
Disney's 1946 feature Song of the South is released in Australia.

July 4th 1979:
The first baby is born at Disneyland, California. Six-pound, 10-ounce Teresa Salcedo is born to Rosa and Elias Salcedo on a bench behind Plaza Inn. Mickey Mouse will later honor the Los Angeles family with a "Disneyland Birth Certificate No.1"!

July 3, 1910 - Marcellite Garner, the voice of Minnie Mouse beginning in 1928, is born in Redlands, California. She will begin her career in the ink and paint department at the Disney Studios.

July 4, 1956 - Walt Disney and his brother Roy visit Marceline, Missouri - their boyhood home and inspiration for Main Street USA.

July 6, 1925 - Walt and Roy Disney put down a $400 deposit on a lot at 2719 Hyperion Avenue, in the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles, where they plan to build a new studio. The single-story building will serve as the Disney's base for the next fifteen years.

THIS WEEK IN DISNEY HISTORY
July 13, 1955 - Eighteen-year-old Bob Penfield begins working at Disneyland four days before the Park's grand opening. He will go on to work for Disneyland for the next 42 years, making him the longest-working Cast Member in history!

July 15, 1912 - Imagineer and writer Al Bertino is born in California. He will go on to help design such Disneyland attractions as Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, The Haunted Mansion, and the Country Bear Jamboree.

July 17, 1955 - Walt Disney's very first theme park, Disneyland, debuted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon July 17, 1955, in Anaheim, California.

July 20, 1890 - Verna Felton, the voice of the Fairy Godmother in Disney's "Cinderella" and the Queen of Hearts in "Alice in Wonderland," is born in Salinas, California.

July 30, 1932 - Disney's first full-color animated film, "Flowers and Trees," premieres at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

July 26, 1951 - Disney's animated "Alice in Wonderland" has its world premiere in England, at London's Leicester Square Theatre. It will be released in the U.S. two days later.

August 2, 1920 - Voice actor, writer and producer Bill Scott is born William John Scott in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His Disney credits include "George of the Jungle II" and "The Gummi Bears."

August 5, 1967 - Disneyland's attraction Adventure Thru Inner Space opens in Tomorrowland. Guests are transported through a microscope where they are shrunken down and sent off to explore the inside of an atom.

THIS WEEK IN DISNEY HISTORY
August 9, 1919 - Zorro first appears in an edition of the popular pulp magazine "All Story Weekly." In the late 1950s, Disney will turn Zorro into a successful TV series.

August 9, 1969 - The Haunted Mansion attraction opens in New Orleans Square at Disneyland. The grand opening of the attraction is heralded by a promotional blitz that include the "I Scream" Sundaes sold at Disneyland's Carnation Plaza.

THIS WEEK IN DISNEY HISTORY
August 14, 1958 - The grand opening of the Alice in Wonderland attraction at Disneyland takes place with a ceremony hosted by Walt Disney himself and Mouseketeer Karen Pendleton - dressed as Alice.

August 20, 1928 - Imagineer and Disney Legend Harriett Burns is born in San Antonio, Texas. She will go on to help create Sleeping Beauty Castle, New Orleans Square, the Haunted Mansion, and many other Theme Park attractions.

August 21, 1920 - Daphne Milne, wife of writer A.A. Milne, gives birth to a son who the couple name Christopher Robin. He will later be immortalized in his father's books "Winnie-the-Pooh" and "The House at Pooh Corner."

August 23, 1986 - The U.S. Senate passes a bill, Public Law 99-391, designating December 5, 1986 as "Walt Disney Recognition Day."

August 25, 1958 - Tim Burton, filmmaker, writer, and producer of such joint Disney films as "James and the Giant Peach" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas," is born in Burbank, California.
