Re: Disney nostalgia

Amazing to watch. Really neat to see some of the spots that are no longer there like River Country and Discovery Island.

Watching this might be the best 6 and a half minutes of my day. Thanks!

The yesteryear music is kinda lame. But its nice to see the changes Disney has made over the years.

Re: Disney nostalgia

It's amazing to see how much WDW has changed over the years. I rather miss Discovery Island!

What was up with the music?

Re: Disney nostalgia

I was fortunate to visit both DI and RC on my first visit in '92 and glad that I did.

Re: Disney nostalgia

Back then it was just Disney World...no Epcot, MGM, AK, DTD or waterparks.

And todays music is better too!

Re: Disney nostalgia

The music is creeping me out! But the best part of it was "The Top of the World Supper Club in the Contemporary Resort where top performers fill the skys with song and dance." haha, that was great video!

Re: Disney nostalgia

my dad gave me a book he found at goodwill of WDW celebrating their 15th anniversary- its absolutely wild how different the characters look, the things that dont exist- the things that didnt exist then. The big push back then was Captain EO- imagine that??? They had like 4 pages of pics of just that!

Re: Disney nostalgia

what exactly did they do with Discovery Island? Im not sure where it is- I remember the river country link that had all the destroyed slides and swim areas-did anyone find any truth as to why that closed?

Discovery Island is right across from River Country sitting surrounded by the lake. You can see it from the Fort Wilderness boat dock, the Contemporary, and from parts of the Wilderness Lodge. Discovery Island right now looks like a huge overgrown piece of land and there are a couple interesting looking "shipwrecks" placed on the outside. I never heard any 'official' word but from what I thought it was that the lake water was too unstable to support River Country as a water park. It was probably a mix of things, I miss it though River Country was one of my favorite things in all of WDW.
