Is Disney Greedy?

I love going to WDW as much as anybody I know but with all the recent pricing changes to the DDP, Room Rate Structure, no advance park pass discounts and another round of park admission increases, I must ask:

Is Disney Getting Greedy?

No.

I believe the Corporation, whose sole purpose is to earn money for the stockholders, is charging what the market will bear..

FYI - I am not voting in my own poll yet. I am just too twisted on the topic. I need my fellow MB'ers input!

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

I still think you get MAJOR BANG FOR YOUR BUCK at Disney . . . it's a VACATION resort, of course things will be top dollar there!! Any "vacation area" is always more costly then regular everyday stuff. PLUS, Disney is great at adjusting their price structures . . . look at what a "HIT" the Magic Your Way Passes have been??

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

I say, a business is in business for one reason-to make money. Does that make a business greedy? Maybe, but either way- all businesses are in it for the money, period.

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

It's a business and they have to make a profit. I think it's still a great value for our family and we will go just as often and have just as much fun. I don't see any of the changes as anything out of line, costs are going up all over and Disney has to follow. The DDP was nice but I didn't see it lasting long the way it was, in fact, I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

After spending a fortune for the 3 of us to spend a day at Sea World San Antonio, no I think Disney is in line. I feel you get so much for your dollar there, that's it's worth it. The costs are going up across the board for everything, and are going to continue to do so. Disney must also absorb all the rising fuel costs in everything from food to transportation. That cost must be passed on to make sure they are profitable.

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

Well as every year goes by they have to spend much more. Let think about the Minimumwage that just went into effect. Now do you really think that that was going to come out the profit? It just makes everyone have to raise the price. Look at every fast food chain. They all have taken a price increase ala the minimumwage. Insurance food cost fuel cost. Lets look at all the busses cars trucks lawnmowers weedeaters golfcarts. the list goes on and on. Everyone they buy from has had the same cost problems. So yes they will have to keep raising the price. They will only eat so much before they have to pass all of that on.

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

I personally do not think this question can be answer that simply because there are SO many corporate, market, and economical factors that have to be considered. Defining "greed" in such simple terms is nearly impossible and CLEARLY would vary from individual to individual. If I was forced to answer my out of the box would be "yes." I do not know of any American company that built a multi-billion $ corporation by giving things away for free. Disney would not have been so successful in an American capitalist system without making grand profit. On the other hand, in MY opinion, the 'brand' we get from Disney is debatebly one of the most recognized, high quality, unmistakably seamless, "bang for your buck" brands in the world. Disney knows this, they've learned by trial and error what they can charge for such a commodety. We pay it, they lay it.

I am not happy about the price increases as an individual consumer; I personally don't think they pay their hourly employees enough, give enough hours, or give enough health coverage; and I personally don't think they do enough to "give back," especially to families that can't afford the luxury. So, those things I could probably define as greedy.

ALTHOUGH, I tend not to WANT to complain about the increases because my expectations of the 'brand' are SO high beyond belief and they've delivered since my first visit in '83, and in product my whole life that I can justify the $ for the quality of the brand.

ps: This thread is a PERFECT example of how strong and valuable the 'brand' is, when dedicated consumers actually defend the corporation's right to make more money and they aren't even monitarily profitting from it (on a large scale anyway). Come on, where else does that happen??? We're SO attached, and it's so personal to us.

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

I voted NOT really as I think you still get a lot for your money and as another Theme park who will go unnamed says there two park admission is cheaper then Disney's Park Hopper leaves out Disney has more Parks for basically the same money.

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

I think the latest Disney price increases are making people think of NOT staying or eating on Disney property. I know I can stay and eat alot cheaper off property than on and many "Disneyits" (people who go at least 2 times a year) are, like me, now considering doing just that.

I'm sure some are but I don't mind paying a little more to stay on property. I would hate to waste time leaving to eat off site every day but maybe that's becasue we only go when school is out and the lines are long. We have a hard enough time getting done what we want to get done each day. I love Extra Magic Hours and wouldn't want to give that perk up.

Re: Is Disney Greedy?

Disney id a major corporation just like any other business and want to make their bottom line as profitable as possible. I wouldn't use the word greed but at the same time it pretty much boils down to that. They cut expenses as much as possible while raising prices. No matter how much they inch towards higher ticket prices people will still visit and so will I.
