DD has a Princess Dress!!!!!

Ok - so maybe not what you're thinking, but close enough!

We're in NY right now visiting my in-laws, and one goal my MIL had for this trip was to find DD a dress for her Bat Mitzvah in September. After 2 days of shopping (and one really pushy saleswoman ) she finally found the dress of her dreams - and it's a Disney Dress!!!!

Seems that designer Kirstie Kelly has a bridal line she's done for Disney and DD chose the 2008 Spring Cinderella Maiden dress in the color "Lipstick". I'd try to post a picture, but I'm on my MIL's computer had she has no good photo editing program. She chose style KKC3 (which by the way looks a lot cuter on DD than on the sultry model )! The sash is going to be chocolate brown. We actually had to order it now instead of waiting a few months because the order time for this line is 3-4 months! They will be making a shrug-type jacket for her rather than the shawl (she has to have her shoulders covered for the service) and the dress comes to DD's knee which is absolutely the perfect length for her.

Here's the link:

No - it's actually going to be "Lipstick" which is a corally deep pink color, with a brown sash.

Re: DD has a Princess Dress!!!!!

How beautiful and So Grown Up!!! (I want one!) Can't wait to see pictures of her wearing it!!
Now you have me thinking & if you don't mind me asking...my DD has been invited to a Bat Mitzvah in May, what is a guest suppose to wear? I'm not sure how elaborate her friends party will be...most of the girls that we know that are going have never been to a Bat Mitzvah, so any suggestions would be appreciated...including what type of gift does she give to her friend? Is there anything else I need to think about???

It depends on how fancy the event is. DD has gotten invited to some that have a morning service and a black tie party in the evening. For that you'd make sure they have a not-too-dressy dress for the service (make sure shoulders are covered) and then a fancy dress for the evening. Kohl's has a lot of affordable appropriate dresses for both occasions. If the part is immediately following the service (in the afternoon - like DD's) you'd probably dress her like you would for any other fancier afternoon party (a relative's wedding?) Not too-too fancy, but nice. Does that make sense? The dress DD will be wearing to her own is dressier that she would wear to someone else's for the same type of event.

As for a gift, I usually send DD with a $36 check. The number $18 is Chai - a Hebrew word which I think represents both the number and the word for life. It's considered lucky of you give $ to give a gift with a multiple of $18. $18 is too little, but nobody really gives $54. $36 just seems to be the right amount.

I don't think there's much else to think about. The service can be long for a kid, so just tell her to be patient. And personally I would add to make sure her shoulders are covered and her dress is not too short. If it were an Orthodox temple, she should have a dress below the knee, but it probably isn't (most Orthodox kids don;t have that many non-Orthodox friends, since they usually go to private religious schools). In a conservative or reform temple (ours is reform - more liberal) they do wear off the shoulder dresses and short skirts, but that doesn't mean they are appropriate - I usually wonder how mothers can let their daughter's go to a religious service dressed like that.
