We used to have avatar themes around here, but it gets to be difficult to always come up with new ideas. Some people keep the same one all the time. Others (like my self) like to change often. Wishy is our resident avatar chameleon. Hers is always changing, but usually includes a pic of her. I agree that R2G is THE MAN when it comes to avatars.

Mine is the coolest. I gave R2G the specifications and out came this awesome avatar!!

Boilerjeff, the avatar is in a area of MB called "chit chat" and you will be able to access it when you have 100 posts (and have been on the boards for 3 months which it lookes like you have). It won't take long and you will be able to see it.

By the way, I have been meaning to say "Go Boilers!" for a while.

I have been fooling around with some off these and thought hey maybe someone here at DC would like to have some. It is kind of like having kittens and trying to find them all a good home. I have some more that I would like to make and I will post them here. Some I do have as bigger files so they are better quality. If you would like one of those Pm me your email and I will send it to you. Enjoy!!

Here is how they are made. First I load the movie onto the computer using video editing software [any would work but I use Avid]. Loading takes the run time of the movie so I let it run while I am working on something else. Then when I have some free time I just watch the movie playback from the computer and pause it when I see a scene that I think would make a good avatar. I then export that small section of the scene as an .avi file. During this process is when the picture is reduced in size so that it can work as an avatar. Next I load that exported file into a program called ULead Gif Animator. This program lets you import .avi files, edit them somewhat, optimize the colors, and export them as an animated .gif file. Which is what you see here as the finished avatars. It seems like a lot but it took longer to type this than it would to make 10 avatars.


If you have dial-up it will take a minute for each page to load. If you do not see an avatar in the attachments area of the post try to refresh the page and it should appear.




How To:

If you would like to use one of the Avatars that is in this thread simply right click on the one you want, a small menu will open, click on " Save image as.." a window will open so you can name the Avatar and select a folder on your computer where you would like to save it. Click on "Save" it is now on your computer. Then upload it to DC as your avatar by going to your "User CP" page then to your "Edit Avatar" page. At the bottom of that page you will see a "Browse" button. Click it and a page will open. Use that page to find the Avatar that you saved on your computer. When you find it click on it then on the "Open" button. The path to the Avatar will now be shown on your "Edit Avatar" page to the left of the "Browse" button.

Now hit the "Save Changes" button and you're done.
