Animated features and Walt's four-part "choral" music...
It seems to me that the greatest animated features of Walt's time had that special four-part harmonized "choral" sound.
That sound has a timeless, adventurous appeal to me, even though I'm sure many modern boomers and Xers have a negative opinion of that sound as either being too "antiquated" or too "churchy". Nonetheless, it seems to me that Disney would do itself a big favor if it resurrected that characteristic sound for some of its animated features (post-Eisner, of course). "Return to Neverland" demonstrates how out-of-place modern music is in describing the wonder of fight relative to the four-part harmony of "You Can Fly". What do you all think? Are the four-part harmonized voices timeless or just a contemporary style of the 30's-60's that is never to be revived? |
