Icon9 Sighing for Snow White!

I made a decision this last Octover that whatever Disney animated movies I didn't already own on video and thought worth buying, I would get them on DVD. First and foremost on my list has been Snow White, obviuosly being the first animated movie...

But I can hardly find it anywhere for under 45 dollars! I know it's been vaulted already, and I didn't buy it when it was first released in 2001 because we didn't even own a DVD player, and that was back in the day when I was a stubborn chick and thought DVDs were the devil or something...

I'm looking for the two-disc set specifically, new and unopened would be nice but I know thats alot to ask for at a smaller price. I've tried amazon.com and even ebay (a friend who has an account there will let me reimburse him). But someone outbid us this morning! This is highly frustrating but I suppose patience is a virtue...

How long do y'all suppose it will be until vaulted movies are...unvaulted? In 20 years when they find something even more compact and expensive to put entertainment media on? Curse you, Eisner!

Re: Sighing for Snow White!

Unfortunately, since it's been vaulted any copy you get is going to be at an inflated price. You are going to have to decide if you want it that badly. Good luck on your search. If I see anything, I'll PM you.

I don't know if I am doing this right...but i just checked amazon.com. Under "DVD's" in the "Search" box and typed in "Snow White" in the blank subject field...when I hit search. A new copy of Snow White returned for $30.00.

Re: Sighing for Snow White!

I think they usually stay vaulted for about 10 years. Cinderella was vaulted on VHS when I was around 10, and it's supposed to be re-released this year.

I'm going through the same issue. When DVD players got big a few years ago, I didn't even have one because they were SO expensive. Now I've got one, and want all the Disney DVDs that are already in the vault. I REALLY want to get Fantasia on DVD, but it's really expensive.

Re: Sighing for Snow White!

Fantasia just went back into the vault last year.

I'd like to get Tarzan.

I will say Disney came up with a great marketing ploy with the vaulting program. It's probably made them millions as opposed to making all their movies readily available.

Re: Sighing for Snow White!

I've lost Fantasia too?? RAGH. Well at least I've still got that on a...somewhat quality video. Tarzan is on my wish-list too, as well as Mulan, Dumbo, Alice/Wonderland, Pinocchio...too many if you ask me.

Ten years, eh? Crud muffins. I guess I'll just have to rent it and...pretend I...lost it....yeah. *cough* : Oh come on you guys know I'd never do that!

Re: Sighing for Snow White!

: Whew....$42 bucks for a DVD is unbelievable! When Disney DVDs come out new--even 2-disc collectors' sets--we can get them at Wal-Mart for $15!! Makes me appreciate the ability to buy them when they first come out.

I've run into basically the same problem as you Screever. DH and I were well on our way to having our Disney animated movie collection complete, when we decided to move to California and work at Disneyland. We ended up selling almost every single one of our DVDs...the one I am kicking myself the most for was the Limited Issue Jungle Book I gave to some guy for five bucks!!!...and re-building our collection has been much harder ever since. I think we only have 7 or 8 Disney movies...it's really sad. I'm thinkin' I better get my butt in gear before the end of the month and scoop up the Lion King...

BTW, I work on Ebay all day long. I'll let you know if I can ever score a bargain on Snow White, okay?

Hehe, we're so alike, dznygrl. We're like sisters! But if there's ever a good find of Snow White on ebay you'll have to fight me for it!

Hehe, you're right. We really ARE like sisters!

Awww, I dunno...I'm a pretty generous person...I might just let *you* have Snow White if I find it for cheap on Ebay. Who knows if I'll have the money to pay for it anyway? All my money from Ebay already goes into (1) bank account for WDW or (2) back into Ebay for stuff I don't need!

Haha, that's exactly what I'm doing - no kids yet, but working on the DVD collection. I also want to have all the storybooks - you know the big, what I call, 'bedtime story books', hardback, etc - I want all of those for my future kids as well.

And for anyone who doesn't have them already, Lion King 1 1/2 and 2 are getting vaulted at the end of January. So get them while you can!

Re: Sighing for Snow White!

WHEEEE good news!! My friend called me and told me he found Snow White DVD on ebay....for THIRTEEN DOLLARS!!! And he's a repsonsible buyer too, so I trust him! What a pal...keep in mind I didn't ask to make sure it was the two-disc thing...I mean it was nice enough of him to hook me up with it...I'm sure I'll cope. Happiness is having a generous friend...

Re: Sighing for Snow White!

Aaaaahhh...I was wrong. Oops! My friend got the one disc...but he's a nice little bugger, is planning on returning/refunding the first one, and we got the two disc, hardly used, for 31 dollars!!!! I am happy now, and this topic can be closed if Mickey wishes it.
