Disney "passed" on Back to Future

I was just watching the Back To The Future trilogy DVDs my kids bought me for Christmas and on one of the documentaries, it was mentioned that Disney Studios said they weren't interested in making BTTF because of the mere suggestion of a romatic relationship between Marty and his mom Lorraine when he goes back to 1955. Oh well, I guess that proves even Disney can goof.

Wow...it may be a joke, but it could happen! I have never gone on it, but I hear it is a great ride!

That's interesting. It seems the morals have slipped at bit since then. I bet they'd do it now.

I didn't mean the RIDE, I meant the MOVIE. (But BTTF IS the only decent ride at that other place - I have heard -lol).

I have a confession...i worked that ride for like 6 months..i know that's off the subject..but I had to get that off my chest. It's not really a decent ride...honestly, not updated or safe.

I agree, that was a goof on Disney's part...that was one of the highest grossing films of that year.

Re: Disney "passed" on Back to Future

I believe Disney also passed on making the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Harry Potter movies, and something else really big.

That's not entirely true ~ the new Revenge of the Mummy was awesome, but you have a point, Universal is a bit borning. IOA is a little better, but not much. This trip it seemed like both parks were a waste of prime Mickey time

I agree, IOA was horrible!!! The few rides we went on were ok, (didnt have 4 hours to wait for Spiderman to be functional again) but the place was so dirty! The workers were less than friendly too.
I guess I am just judging everything by Disney standards.

On the subject of "Brand X" theme park(s): I confess we spent a day (well, at least part of a day) at Universal several trips ago. We apologize!!!! At that time, they were constructing IOA, so my only exposure was to the original park. Ho Hum...

IMHO, the Back To The Future ride was the only decent one (probably partly because I LOVE the movies). I also really enjoyed the Alfred Hitchcock attraction, but again, I think it was due in part to the fact that I am a fan of Hitchcock movies. It seemed most of the rides were giant versions of the virtual reality things they have inside our local mall from time to time (you know, the "roller coaster"). The other ones were so LAME. Jaws was pathetic and the old King Kong ride was so bad, they took it out the next year, I think. (Mummy hadn't been built yet. Did they put in a Jurassic Park ride?)

We got there pretty early in the morning, expecting it to take us all day. HA! We did everything we wanted (some things two or three times) and were ready to leave the middle of the afternoon - and we went straight to you-know-where for some real fun.
