Paging Mr. Sanders.

I'm sure some of you Winnie the Pooh fans know the answer to this. DW & I were wondering why the name over Pooh's door says "Mr. Sanders?"

Re: Paging Mr. Sanders.

Here is the official Disney answer:

Q: There's a sign on Winnie the Pooh's house reading "Mr. Sanders." Who is Mr. Sanders?

A: Mr. Sanders is the person who lived in Winnie the Pooh's house before Pooh moved in. They just forgot to take the sign down!

Doesn't really tell us anything does it?

Re: Paging Mr. Sanders.

I have always believed that Mr. Sanders was a bear that lived in the house before Pooh, maybe a relative of Pooh. Pooh just had better things to do than to worry about changing it.

Re: Paging Mr. Sanders.

"once upon a time, a very long time ago now, about last Friday, winnie-the-pooh lived in a forest all by himself under the name of Sanders.
("what does "under the name" mean?" asked Christopher Robin. "It means he had the name over the doo in gold letters and lived under it."
Quote from Winne-the-pooh and some bees by A.A. Milne.

I wonder if this was someone the author knew and wanted to add their name to pay homage.

Re: Paging Mr. Sanders.

Mr Sanders was such a good neighbor. We were all sad when he left. He always made the most fantastic picnics for us; cole slaw, baked beans, rolls, corn, and lots of fried chicken. Well he upped and left one day and we haven't heard from him since. Hope he did well for himself...he was a fine young man.

What an interesting site. I am not very familiar with the original Pooh stories. It appears there is a huge amount of information and stories that Disney never tapped into.

Looking at http://www.lavasurfer.com/pooh-faq2.html#1 it gives an answer to this possible question.

Thanks to llama for the web address
