Beauty and the Beast - The Play

I know, the play is not the movie, but I felt this still would be the forum to post this to.
We have tickets for the play Beauty and the Beast for this Sunday in NY. There are several of us going, including my daughter (10) and my niece (12). The girls don't know about this yet so it will be a surprise.
I would just like to know who out there has seen this play and what are your thoughts. I'm quite excited about going and can't wait to see my daughter's face when I tell her about the surprise!:)

Minnie and I saw Beauty and the Beast on Broadway this past July. It was well done, entertaining and a fun evening. The one problem was that we saw Thoroughly Modern Millie the night before, and it was fantastic! So, I was a little let down, but it was still very good.

My parents took my kids to see the traveling version a couple of weeks ago, basically the same thing we saw, and the kids loved it. I am sure your daughter will have a blast.

By the way, we ran across a great restaurant just down the street. Ollie's Noodle house, located at 190 East 44th Street, just off of Time Square. Very quick, wonderful dumplings and other Chinese food, and reasonably priced. We were in and out on two separate occasions in less than about 50 minutes.

I saw this play on broadway in NY about 3 years ago. My daughter loved it and she was 5 at the time. I think the play was very entertaining for all ages, the only thing that could be a problem is the seating. We had first row in the Mez, which was great because when they do the scene in the castle it is very high up. The poor people sitting in the floor seats look like they where sitting in the front seats of the movie theater looking straight up to see the top of the screen. But other than that it was great.:)

Enjoy the show!!!!

Thanks to both of you for your input, and Mickey thanks for the restaurant suggestion. We are leaving in the morning so we are making a day of it. We live about about 1 1/2 hours from NY and I haven't been there since 9/11, so I'm really looking forward to spending the day there.

We saw B&B when it came to Wash DC several years ago; 5 maybe? Can't remember; might have been longer. Any way, it was great. I wouldn't hesitate to see it again. Enjoy! SW

I was lucky enough to catch the second night of previews oh - so- long ago. I'm a big Tim Rice fan and was hoping he'd be there. Instead, right before the show started, I took a quick walk to the rear and ran into Alan Menken (the composer), who was so nice that he took the time to introduce me to Linda Woolverton, the writer. They both signed my program (interestingly, this was the first show I was ever at where the MERCHANDISE was ready BEFORE the show even opened! Leave it to Disney).
On that night - and I assume that night alone- the part of the narrator was portrayed by a female voice- which I believe was Ms. Woolverton herself!
I loved the original production - it was big, it was colorful - and worth every penny. I understand it has been downscaled somewhat since it has moved to the new theatre across the way.
I last saw it with Toni Braxton in the lead, which was an interesting treat in itself. It led to the creation of a new song that has stuck with the show (A Change in Me).

Have a great time. It's a Beaut-i-ful story- both in movie and on stage.
