Top Grosser

My bro-inlaw just asked me what the top grossing Disney Animated film of all time was. I was very embarassed to say that I didn't know for sure. :o But of course I did know where I could find out  . So help me out guys. Redeem my Disney expert status within the family. I ventured a guess that it was Beauty & the Beast.

Thanks

Well, it is the Lion King, by a long ways. Here are the top 10 of all time:

1 The Lion King $312,855,561
2 Shrek $255,526,2803
3 Toy Story 2 $245,852,179
4 Aladdin $217,350,219
5 Toy Story $191,780,865
6 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs $178,028,683

Technically, it is Lion King, but this list does not account for inflation. If you wanted to get picky, Snow White blows them all away when you consider the cost of a ticket when it was released. (Beauty and the Beast is currently 11th on the list)

Hey Mickey, I don't mean to show up the administrator :nervous but I spend a lot of time on IMDb and that list looked close but a little off. For one, I think Shrek was released by Dreamworks. Lion King is indeed #1 though. Monster's Inc is pretty high as well, as long as we're including computer animated movies. It looks like you might have just replaced Monsters Inc with Shrek on your list.

Here's what I found at this link:
http://movies.yahoo.com/hv/boxoffice-alltime/rank.html

1. Lion King $322,544,237
2. Monsters Inc $255,870,172
3. Toy Story 2 $245,852,179
4. Aladdin $217,350,219
5. Toy Story $191,780,865
6. Snow White $178,028,683
7. Beauty and the Beast $171,340,294
8. Tarzan $171,091,819
9. A Bug's Life $162,798,565
10. Who Framed Roger Rabbit $154,112,492

Who knows whether the data there is completely accurate, I actually found differing numbers at boxofficemojo.com. However, just going with the numbers from the Yahoo site, those 10 all come in the top 100 films overall currently, with Roger Rabbit hanging in there at 97th. Of course this year, that will fall out of the top 100, with some big box office films coming out.

I just found this link at IMDb as well, which looks like it lists any film which grossed more than $100M at the US Box Offices:

Yep, you are right. My list was a bit old, since it obviously doesn't include Mosters Inc. I also just pulled the top grossing animated movies of all time, but the majority of them are Disney, so you still get the point. Thanks for the updated list.
