"The Wild" didn't fare well at Box Office

i was just looking at the numbers for the movies this weekend. "The Wild" came in 4th place but only made a dismall $9,559,000. Ouch. I think I smell a box office dud here. sorry disney for the disappointment. i think this is a first where dreamworks beat disney with one of their similar movies (antz, bugs life, shark tale, nemo, etc) maybe next time disney, come up with better strategies or finish your movie before dreamworks.

Re: "The Wild" didn't fare well at Box Office

Our newspaper this morning had a picture of a scene from Madagascar and a picture of a scene from The Wild. Boy did they look similar . . .
Seems like bad timing to me.

We just saw The Wild last night. The theater was pretty empty.
It was a great movie, but as everyone says very similar to Madagascar.

Just one thing: and that it didnt fare well at the box office suprised who?

I knew it was gonna bomb when I saw the previews. Just because Madagascar came out first.

Re: "The Wild" didn't fare well at Box Office

Does anyone see any irony in saying a film that made $9.5 million didn't do well?

But, yes, by today's movie standards it's a dud. I have no desire to see it.

Re: "The Wild" didn't fare well at Box Office

I think it's a shame, but it wasn't it's not a total shocker either. I intend to see it, but am going to wait for the DVD. I think many people may have that same idea. If the general public think it's like Madagascar (sp? whatever?), why bother paying the theater prices for it? We all know which movie was started first, but I'll bet you the general public does not. They just see copy-cat. I think it's terrible timing and a terrible shame that they didn't get this done sooner.

Re: "The Wild" didn't fare well at Box Office

The Wild II sequel will probably be out in six month on DVD. But hey, in six years they will lock this one in the Disney vault as a "Classic".

I love disney and own them all. Best memory was mom and I at Mary Poppin's and Bambi. I don't want to risk my families memories on "fart gags" and "look-a-likes".

Renter. No... ...borrower.

Hey Disney! Keep tryin'!

Dansharon5,
You should be aware that sarcasm is not generally accepted here at DC. UNLESS you have filled out forms in triplicate at www.disneycentral.com/sarcasmlicensingagreement and mailed me your $50 registration fee.

Has anybody seen this? I thought Madagascar was rather boring except for the Lemurs. . I might see this one if it was actually better even though similar.

Re: "The Wild" didn't fare well at Box Office

Sorry about the sarcasm but my 5 year old DS isn't the least bit interested. He owns all the disney CDs and DVDs. He also owns the Madagascar DVD and sound track CD. (He requested them specifically) Anyway, we'll probably end up renting The Wild and buy the DVD later, especially after our WDW trip this summer. He's really talking about POC. Can't wait!
