Just saw JBll
The kids and I just got back from slogging through the snow to see Jungle Book ll. It was a lot of fun. It wasn't up to the standards of the original, but I didn't expect it to be. Truth be told, I only went because JB has always been my favorite Disney movie. The reviews were terrible, but I figured, what the ****, I'll go anyway. To my surprise, I actually found it quite entertaining. Has anyone else seen it yet?:heart :)

Well, I'm snowbound(18-25 inches by tonight), so no work for me today. Looks like I'll be spending some quality time with family once they wake up. So, while I wait, I figured I'd see how many other people have seen JBll. Come on, people, fess up. There have to be a few of you out there-it grossed $19 million over the weekend.:heart :)

Hey wdwjeff. I took my DD this weekend to see JB2...and we enjoyed it. I hadn't read any reviews or such, so only expectations were of my own making. My own critiques were in trying not to compare it TOO much to the original ;) ...and while it wasn't near the animation level of it's predecessor (and few Disney cartoons are anymore IMHO), I thought the creators did very well in re-creating the voices and personalities of the characters we were introduced to as children.
More importantly, listening to the children in the theater react was totally worth it....I caught more than a few times many children (including my own DD...but don't tell her I told you!), singing and head bopping right along with the songs...chastising Kaa for trying to hypnotise Shanti, and encouraging Baloo in getting to the village to see Mowgli. But I think what caught my eye the most was the adults who came...without children...just to watch, laugh...and let that bit of Disney kid still inside them, come and enjoy their own memories. Totally cool. So, yup...I say with the movie grossing $19 million in "bare neccessities", there are more than a few of us out there who were happy to see good ol' Baloo come out of hybernation ![]()

I don't know y'all, I didn't think it was that great. Normally I loovvve most disney movies, and granted I did have the flu and my kids were driving me crazy and I was just hoping for a break and the movie was so short......... But I digress, the kids were split, dd loved it and ds did not. I loved the original but listening to John Goodman as Baloo didn't work for me. His voice is too familiar and I thought the plot line was kind of weak. But any disney movie to me is still a wonderful escape from reality.
Sorry to disagree Angie

WDWJeff since you love JB so much, I wish you could have seen my summer camp kids a couple of years ago. I was the drama instructor for the pre-4's and k's and we had to put on several productions over the course of the summer. The BEST one I came up with by far was to choreograph dances for the kids to do to "I want to be like you" and "Bare Necessities" They were so adorable!! The music from the original was soo great!

I liked JBII.
I agree that it wasn't as good as the original but I think that is probably true of most II movies. I think that this is partly to do that the originals were seen by most of us when we were young and the first impression made it great for us, at least for me it did. I took my DD-6, DD-4 & DS-4 and they all loved the movie. And as usual, never missing a beat, our local McDonalds is passing out JBII toys which my kids love. |
