Don't buy Shaggy Dog DVD at WalMart
We own a Bearded Collie, the same breed used in the new Tim Allen/Disney "Shaggy Dog" movie. We love our Megan, but Beardies aren't for everyone. Fearing a rush of folks wanting to adopt Beardies, Disney and the AKC (American Kennel Club) placed a flyer in the DVDs, telling folks about Beardies, telling them they're not for everyone and to really think long and hard before going out and adopting one. They didn't want something similar to the hundreds of Dalmatian puppies who were adopted and then returned in the wake of the live version of "101 Dalmatians" a few years ago.
But WalMart (and Sam's) will not allow the flyers in the copies of the DVD it sells. We bought our copy at Target and the flyer was in there.

I remember how awful it was when 101 Dalmatians came out. I had a friend who did animal rescue, and it was really bad. Why wouldn't Walmart allow the flyer? That doesn't make any sense.

Not that I was planning on buying Shaggy Dog, and the closest WalMart is about 30 minutes away but thank you for sharing. I am a complete 100% doggie lover and I remember being heartbroken hearing the stories of all those Dalmations.

Never heard about the dalmation scandal...and Best Buy is closer to us than Target or Walmart so...that answers that.

I never heard about the 101 Dalmations either. but I did hear all that "all drains do not lead to the ocean" after Finding Nemo. I do not understand Wal Marts stand on not allowing the fliers. Have not seen the new version of the Shaggy Dog .. hope it is as good as the original :)

Interesting because I bought Eight Below recently and there was a flyer in it about Huskies with the same type of inormation. I bought it at Wal Mart.

We plan to pick it up for our DGD but with 2 dogs and 5 cats now I don't think we will be rushing out any time soon for another dog of any kind.
