Pirates of the Caribbean

Whoa! Has anyone seen this trailer? I am ready for this to come out now! Johnny Depp is incredibly talented, and Orlando Bloom has done a good job with LOTR and Blackhawk Down.

Everyone elses thoughts?

The trailer does look good. I heard the movie mentioned in an auto part store commercial on TV the other day. The movie opens July 9 though. Seems that the movie will be heavily promoted, trying to attract a potentially profitable summer crowd. Disney needs a hit. They have had plenty of misses as of late.;pirate:

I'm anxious to see this too, my sister is going the day it opens (she loves Orlando Bloom). I like action films and so does DH so this will probably be one of the few we see in the theater. The last one we saw before Piglet was Gangs of New York which is now both of our favorite movie!

What do you think about taking kids to this movie? I've only seen the previews once on TV, looked kinda scary for a child. I don't think it was even rated at the time. Is this a movie that kids should/could watch?

I would say the 8 and under age would not be interested, and that the 9 - 13 will be based on how easily your child may be frightened of disfigured people. 13 and up should have no problem. Foremost I think it's an action/adventure movie, and that any scare elements are merely due to the nature of the story and not intentional. Does that make sense?

Yes, that makes sense. My son is 7 (turning 8 in June) I mentioned it to him, and he said "nope" but then when I told him POC was a ride a disney (the one he was too scared to go onto the ride after we waited 15 minutes for the ride:( ) he said maybe. I guess I'll just wait for this one to come out on DVD. That one part where the guy turns into bones and looks all freaky...well that's too much for me even. hehe...so I wouldn't take him to it! Thanks for the input!!:D

Pirates of the Caribbean

I hope this will be a hit for Disney Pictures (DP). I agree with PiratesFan that they are in need of a hit. Ever since they decided to pursue the PC (political correctness) path they have bombed out. The Lion King was their last true success. After that they went into the abyss of trying to appease the international crowd by portraying the the white dog (Americans and Western Europeans) as the evil that walks the Earth. Add a little revisionst history to plenty of PC = a movie that most Americans don't want to see. Pocahontas and Eldorado are points in case. Gee, every white guy in the movie is a big dummy or evil with the exception of the hero who rises above the western imperialism, I want to pay close to $75 for my family of 5 to see that at the theater! That crap might be a hit on the East and Left coast but it doesn't in fly-over country.

I'm pulling for DP on this one. Lets just hope that it is not another DP slam on Eurotrash. I have read articles about the upcoming Alamo remake. From all I have heard about it Santa Anna had the moral high ground and deserved to slaughter the occupiers of the Alamo in this movie. Another flop in the making.

:(

PotC

Iwent to a thread from this foeum and I think I got an answer to my concern about PotC. This is a qoute from one of the main characters of the movie:

Thursday 17th April 2003: Pirates of the Caribbean Update:
Keira Knightley has been talking about Pirates of the Caribbean " I do have fight scenes. She starts kicking *** which is great because she spends quite a bit of time hovering in the corner going “Oh My God!” which is quite understandable if you get taken away by pirates. She really starts to fight back so I had fight scenes with staffs and candlesticks, never a sword. They wouldn’t give me a sword. Originally there weren’t any fight scenes in the script. I don’t remember first reading it thinking oh my God; I am going to be an action figure. Suddenly, I’m doing all these fight scenes. I said, WAIT! WAIT! This wasn’t what I signed up for! (Jokingly, of course) I signed up for a nice corseted job sitting in the corner, occasionally coming in to do a close-up. That’s what I signed up for and suddenly I’m fighting all these baddies. There’s a lot of CGI and these skeletal pirates and stuff so you don’t actually fight with anybody. It’s not like two actors doing a fight scene. You do the fight with an actor and then the actor disappears and you do the fight without anybody there so you’re being beat up by an invisible person. I was fighting with a big staff and then had to do it without the staff because of the CGI. So, not only did they take the actor away, they took my weapon away as well. I’m miming the whole thing. I never thought that mime would be something I’d need to use but it’s safe to say that if you’re at drama school and you get the chance, for God’s sake, just make sure you watch the mime classes. "

So...PotC will be a PC revionist tale of history. God knows that pirates never fought with weapons. Oh No! They were nice guys who fought battles with candle sticks, nothing sharp. Makes you wonder why our battle cry was "Millions for defense but not a penny for tribute". The pirate thing is why the "to the shores of Tripoli" is in the USMC hymn. They used to fight with swords and worse.
