Prince Caspian in 5 Days

For those who have read the books (as I have numerous times), I'm not sure how Disney is going to top TLTWATW in terms of action/adventure. Caspian is rather a tame book with no huge battles. What I'm afraid of, based on the previews, is a film that is only loosely based on this masterpiece.

Re: Prince Caspian in 5 Days

I am afraid of the same thing.

I am soooo excited for this movie, but I'm hoping it stays true to the book. I realize a lot of people found "Prince Caspian" to be one of the more 'boring' books, but it was always one of my very favorites. The only book I've read more often than Prince Caspian is probably Voyage Of The Dawn Treader.

After TLTWATW it could be tough to keep people - who haven't read the books - as interested without the same epic scenes.

My son loves the books, and I gotta tell you, he's going to pop if Friday doesn't get here soon! He can't wait for the movie.

Re: Prince Caspian in 5 Days

I can't wait for the movie and I'm afraid a lot of others can't either. DH is a late night movie guy but I perfer matinees because they are less crowded and you can pretty much choose the exact seat you want. But guess what...its MY birthday so I get to pick. He's thinks because I want this for my birthday, he gets to make me see Indiana Jones-yes as my DH says, I'm a commy! ??? I am not a fan, hate creepy crawlies and such! So I am actually impatiently waiting for this birthday so I can go see this movie!
I love the books but it's been a while sense I read them, but I do remember asking why they choose tihs book to do next.

My best guess is they chose to start with TLTWATW because The Magician's Nephew has so little continuity into the next few books, and I suppose their reasoning for Prince Caspian was that it follows TLTWATW chronologically and still has the same core characters.

I think for people who haven't read the books, they're going to invoke a lot of confusion if they attempt to make some of the later books that contain completely different characters. Heaven FORBID someone gets the idea to try and use stories from the later books and make them with the Pevensie kids. It seems like something someone in Hollywood would do though....

Re: Prince Caspian in 5 Days

I HATE the fact that recent publications have changed the order of the books. C.S. Lewis wrote his book in the order he felt they should be told, and the movies should reflect that.

That is exactly what I thought after reading them. I saw the movie first! Didn't like reading until I became a "real" adult.
I thought they should do them all in a row so we understood the way the story went. They had reasoning for changing Star Wars but even Lord of the Rings was done in order! (can't think of anymore ex.) My first thought was that they thought it too difficult to do the first book but with the technology we have today I doubt they would let that stand in the way.
Someday I would like them all done.
dznygrl-if I remember correctly DH told me that the first time I questioned it but you know how we can just ignore the spouse at times!

***applauds***

Haven't seen the Caspian movie yet. Also worried for the same reasons. I think it's a fantastic book, with a lot of depth to it, but I've heard some of the best and most spiritually and emotionally resonant scenes have been cut out.

Re: Prince Caspian in 5 Days

I've become a little concerned by all the reviews saying Prince Caspian is even more violent and action-packed than TLTWATW.... That certainly doesn't align with the book from my memory at all.

I am glad it's doing well though - anything that turns more people onto C.S. Lewis's work (even if it's a loosely-adapted movie ) is okay in my book. Hopefully we'll get the chance to see it soon!

I had the same concern. However, the movie holds true to the book. They simply expounded on Lewis' mentioning of a lost battle that led one of the dwarves to contact the "dark magic."
