I recorded this movie over the weekend for my DD since it has Ashley Tisdale and it was advertised in a young girls' magazine that she reads.

We have child lock protection on the Direct TV, so when we began to watch it, it asked for our secret code for language and material. I told DD that I would need to watch it first before allowing her to. Today I did just that. Unfortunately she will not be watching it.

WARNING:

This movie is not for younger children. I would say teens would probably be fine (depending on what you allow your children to watch), but there is some seriously mature subject matter and language.

This isn't the first time this has happened to us with ABC Family. When Wildfire first came on, DD (who loves horses) thought we could watch it together. I quickly realized that the subject matter in that show was not appropriate for my young DD.

Now they have some show called The Secret Life of an American Teenager about a young teen who is pregnant and is hiding it from her parents. I can not judge as I have not seen this one, but again, not suitable subject matter for my 11 year old DD.

Anyhow, just wanted to let you know about Picture This before any of your HSM loving little ones see or hear something they shouldn't.

To be honest, I watch ABC Family programming very closely. They play quite a bit of "mature" material on there. NOT at all what I want my kids watching.. Thanks for the heads up!

I recorded it too..for myself I haven't watched it yet but I am glad you posted the warning..not that I have any kids that would watch it with me.

I recorded it and watched it last night and i was pretty shocked by some of the language and other content of the movie. I thought there is no way this can be targeted towards young girls.

You're welcome. I think you're correct in that their programming is leaning more toward the adults. That is OK if they present it that way. I don't think it should be considered a family channel.

I forgot to mention that, for me, it was OK. The mean girl was especially mean and they had a weird scene that actually kind of disturbed me a little.

You may enjoy it, I just felt it was choppy in places. Kind of like parts were cut out or missing.

The sad part is that it was. My DD reads a magazine called Discovery Girls magazine targeted at tweens. They had a full page ad. What ABC family showed as a preview was not an accurate portrayal of the movie IMO.

Also, one of the "commercials" was a behind the scenes look at HSM3, so I would imagine that they presumed that is the audience that would be viewing this movie as well. Although, I guess it stands to reason that they could be target the Moms.

I agree with you. This program was not for younger girls. I do feel the channel is misrepresenting itself as a family channel. Some of the shows on there are not at all family oriented. It's changed quite a bit over the last couple of years.

Good to know. DD8 asked me about this movie! I'll have to set the DVR for the repeat and see what it is you are all talking about!

I think you should definitely preview it. A lot of the material is way too mature for and 8 yr. old.

On a positive note, my DD loved Ashley Tisdale's version of Shadows of the Night (previously by Pat Benetar). I was able to find it on-line and let her listen to it.

I saw the preview for this movie and really didn't give it a second thought. It was advertised on the disney channel I think,but I am not sure. I don't have those kinds of worries anymore now that DD is 14 and more or less can watch whatever within reason (no R rated). I am glad that you watched it BEFORE she saw it and didn't assume that it was ok just because it was on ABC family. It should have came with a warning if it was meant for an older crowd..I wonder how many young girls who love ashley watched that and their parents just assumed it was ok cause it was on ABC>?

Probably more than should have. With an older child I think it may have been a good vehicle to open some discussion. It does have a happy ending though.

I think if they were really young like under 6 some of the content may have gone over their heads. Anyhow, if you DD likes Ashley she may like this movie.

I don't think my DD would be remotely interested...she is a sometimes watcher of the Disney channel now which is a whole different topic of discussion..lol

It is horrible about that movie. I don't really like how this channel is supposed to be for your family and there are shows on here that young children and Tweens can't watch.

This is one of my pet peeves. When we are watching something appropriate, and a commercial comes on for something that is completely inappropriate. All the channels are guilty of this. If its the "family" hour, then, I think the commercials aired should also reflect that.
