Song of the South on Alice in Wonderland 2-Disc DVD

OK, so it's not the complete movie, but the Entire "Zip-a-dee-do-dah" segment starting with Uncle Remus all the way up until the ending of Brer Rabbit getting caught in a trap and tricking Brer B'ar is on the second disc of the new 2-Disc special edition of Alice in Wonderland.

Hey, it's one small move in the right direction and the first time Disney has officially released any of the Song of the South on DVD for American retail. Just wanted to share.

The entire Alice in Wonderland DVD is very nice with many neat extras and many segments featuring Walt.

That's great news! At least they are admitting it still exists. Maybe they are testing the waters so to speak...see if there is any negative reaction.
Will have to make sure that DGD gets the Alice in Wonderland DVD

owow .. I have a feeling ..maybe .. should we dare hope?? It would be so great if they finally re-released this movie. what with the song of the south website and also I know there are hundreds or more request on the amazon site for this movie (yes I am one of them) maybe they are thinking about the money they might be losing not releasing it!

I've heard that Leonard Maltin is a great fan of SotS, and that it was one of the first movies he tried to get released on the Treasures collection. Apparently, he's always trying with every new wave. Maybe he'll do it someday. If Disney has managed to release Mickey smoking and drinking, they certainly can release a movie that's not NEARLY as bad as people make it seem.

And Jamie, what's the context? Why is that clip in the Alice DVD?

Oh... it's a Christmas Special staring the real girl who does Alice's voice. The Magic Mirror from Snow White is at the party. Mr. Disney gives some of the guests some wishes, in which the Mirror shows them some different scenes. First, is a 7 dwarfs song, next is a Mickey, Goofy, and Donald cartoon, then the Song of the South segment, and so on... The special is in Black & White while the clips are in Color.

Perhaps it was a special to not only show off Alice in Wonderland (advertised throughout and strongly near the end), but also Color TV. In which case, Song of the South was a good choice. They also advertise "Wholesome good Coca-cola" several times through the show too. :laugh

Oh, I've seen scenes from that special somewhere... Maybe in Walt: Man Behind the Myth?

Recently, on cartoonist Scott Shaw!’s Message Board, cartoonist Dave Bennett posted on how the Cheshire Cat song, “I’m Odd,” was almost animated for the Alice DVD. Dave’s comments can be found here.
