Off site hotels

I thought Id just give a list of some good off site hotels for fun and for those of you who might be traveling to DLR in the future but wont be able to stay on site. Ill be listing the ones in which I myself have stayed in.

The Anabella ($$)
Anaheim Plaza Hotel ($+)
Tropicana Inn & Suites ($$)
Desert Inn & Suites ($+)
Ramada Maingate Saga Inn ($)
Castle Inn & Suites ($$)
Dolphin Cove Resort ($$)
Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel ($+)

There are many other great hotels around also but the ones I listed are ones I myself have stayed in and thought were pretty nice.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites Anaheim South in July and it was great. The suite was large and very clean. Lots of space for a family. Also they have a complimentary full breakfast complete with omelette bar, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, fruit, pastries, cereal. It was yummy and a great money saver! They also had a manager's reception every evening with free beer, wine, mixed drinks, soft drinks, popcorn, snack mix and pizza for $1-$2 slice. It was great as well as a break in your day. THey are also on the ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) system so it was so easy to get to the parks. I woudl highly recommend it!

Re: Off site hotels

I'd like to add my own suggestion to this! :)

When DH and I lived in California this summer, we stayed briefly at the Red Roof Inn Anaheim Maingate. It is located on Disney Way, directly down the street from the entrance to the Timon parking lot. It cost us about $53 per night, and that was in the middle of summer!

We didn't expect much from it, but boy were we impressed! The room was huge, bright and very clean. I think it had more lights in it than any other hotel room I have stayed in, and the furniture looked brand new! The TV had, I swear, had close to 100 channels! It was definitely extended cable. The only thing slightly lacking was the pillows...they were REALLY flat, but we brought our own anway. And since you are paying such a budget price, you only get one little bar of soap every day. But we brought our own soap, too, so...no problem there!

The pool and spa were also very nice. The pool was surprisingly decent size for most of the hotels in the Disneyland area, and it was kept REALLY clean.

We had a car while we were there, and it was a quick left turn and then a straight zip into the Timon parking lot every day. Awesome! But for people without cars, the Red Roof is also on the ART route. The bus comes right into the front part of the parking lot, so it's really easy to access.

We've already booked our room at the Red Roof for eight nights in December, for only $49.49 per night!

Like I said, since you're paying a budget price, you miss out on a few little things (like no continental breakfast.) However, with the money you are saving by staying at this property, it is WELL worth it! The room we stayed in looked comparable to some rooms I have stayed in that cost over twice the price!

I don't usually endorse hotels like this, but I was really impressed with our room & the overall hotel. The sister property in Santa Ana is not NEARLY as nice, but the Anaheim property seems extremely well-maintained.

WOW, Sounds like a very nice hotel. I will have to suggest that to my cousins when they come down. Thats only if they want a good hotel for a good price. Sometimes they splurge and stay on site, but sometimes they dont and like to use the extra money on more gifts. So I'll mention this to them, thanks for the great info! :-) :-)

Re: Off site hotels

For our one trip to the West Coast, we had originally booked our DL stay at one of the small motels directly across the street from the park (not sure of the name...Park-something). When we checked in however, it was more than sub-par. It was yucky! And not cheap price-wise either. So we pulled out the AAA guidebook and found an alternative accomodation immediately.

We ended up just down the street at the Portofino Inn and Suites. It was upscale, clean, pretty and had a kid's suite at one end with a separated King bedroom for us. All for about the same price as the dump we had just left.

I would recommend it to anyone travelling there.

Re: Off site hotels

Many years ago we stayed at the Candy Cane Inn next door to DL. We were a little uneasy about it. I mean the name alone. But to our complete surprise this place turned out to be the best place we could have stayed at. The decor, inside and out, had nothing to do with candy canes or Christmas. The pool was fantastic, their continental breakfast was actually a complete and FREE breakfast. The rooms were very nice. And it was very inexpensive. Hmmm, I wonder if the place is still around.

Re: Off site hotels

I always stay at the Tropicana Inn if I'm off property due to the convience of being right across the street. I have always gotten very hospitible service there. That's only if I'm not on property.

Re: Off site hotels

These are the DL offsite hotels.. The Official Disneyland guide usually has a listing of most of them.

Re: Off site hotels

I have to second the Candy Cane Inn.

Dh, DSs (1 and 10) and DD (2) and I stayed in a premium room at the Candy Cane Inn last July and had a great stay. Our premium room was plenty big for the 5 of us, two umbrella-like strollers, a port-a-crib, two Queen beds, a table with 2 chairs, an armoire, night tables, toys, and luggage. Plus room to play.

The room was very clean, but it did have a slight musty smell (could be worse in damp weather). The beds were so comfy, and the room itself was nicley furnished. I had no quallms about my kids lying and playing on the floor. A microwave and a small fridge were handy. A coffeemaker (with cookies ) and a hairdryer were there as well.

The CCI is a two story motel (you park outside your door) but it is the nicest motel I have ever stayed in. The grounds are beautiful, every day we saw gardners out, but never once did we hear a blower, they swept and used water to keep it clean.

There is a small pool and whirpool, and a seperate toddler pool. Again, small, but so well cared for and in great shape. Laundry room onsite was well kept and tidy.

Conti breakfast is served poolside in the am, and if you have a Premium Room, you get to fill out a slip of what you'd like, and it will be delivered to your door. Choices of bagel w/cream cheese (by far the best of the bread options), toast, small muffins, small croissants, cereal, fruit, coffee, milk, tea. In all honesty, the breakfast was just okay. Handy to have, but far from notable.

We had wonderful service, and they have a shuttle to DLR that runs every 1/2 hour, and is free and property owned, so after a long day, there are no other stops to make. If you want to walk in to DLR, it took less than 10 minutes, door to security gate. The CCI is adjacent to a DCA parking lot, so it's on the same side of Harbor Blvd as the parks, with a wide, well lit sidewalk.

There are 3 different rooms, the Premium is the largest and the only that will sleep 5. They only have a few of these rooms, so you should book early. The hotel is a "U" shape with these rooms located at the bottom of the "U". The smallest rooms (and least expensive) are at the top of the "U" on either side, and are closest to Harbor Blvd (more noisy). The mid price/size rooms are located in the middle, on either side. I liked ahving a downstairs room as I could just roll the strollers in and I didn't have to worry about the kids running and disturbing someone below us.

We had a AAA rate of $119, not cheap, not pricey, but a solid value for quality, service and location.

Re: Off site hotels

This may be a bit off the DL topic but....
I looked at offsite hotels for WDW but to be honest, we stayed at ASMO for around $50-60 a night! A decent offsite was around $40-50. I guess it really depends on season but why stay offsite for that price! We were not looking for "perks" just a place to sleep after the parks but we were very surprised at the quality vs. price. And....the kids didn't want to leave the hotel - the themeing was so awesome!
We LOVED it! It was a great experience!
I really wish DL had value resorts-especially an ASMO! I would not hesitate to reserve!
