Icon5 Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

Does anyone know what the closest hotel to the pedestrian entrance? I have heard the hotels on Harbor are. If this is the case, which end of Harbor? Closer to Ramada Main Gate or HoJo's?
Thanks!

We used to stay at the Candy Cane Inn. It is withinn walking distance. We walked. That's a very nice place, despite the name, it has nothing to do with candy canes. We were very happy staying there. Cause that was in the late 80s-early 90s.

Re: Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

I think technically, the Tropicanna Inn and Suites is the closest to the entrance, but really, there are 10 or so hotels right there that are not much further. The Candy Cane Inn is very nice, and is actually in the parking lot of DL. A but further than the closest, but it is on the same side of the street, so you don't have to wait to cross any big streets. The HoJo is directly across from Space Mountain, so you have to walk down a bit to get to the entrance.

Re: Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

It really depends which entrance you want to go into. The old pedestrian entrance off of Harbor is still there, and all of the hotels along Harbor (between Katella and Ball) are just steps away. Though, they used to have big troubles with tourists bolting across Harbor to get to DL so they put a fence up along the whole stretch of Harbor along the center median, so even if you are technically closest to the entrance, you still have to walk to Harbor and Katella to safely cross the street at the crosswalk.

You can also enter on foot through Downtown Disney, and that technically would put all of the Disney hotels as the closest, but there are also a slew of hotels along Katella as well near Disneyland Drive (some maps may still call it West Street) that would be closest to enter on that end.

Also, not many people know this, but at the far end of the Timon parking lot, there is a little gate for pedestrians. You can enter into that gate, walk across the parking lot, and just hop on the Timon tram and ride to the main gate.

Re: Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

We stayed at the Park Place Inn last May and liked it. Directly across the street from the pedestrian enterance with a free continental breakfast at the restaurant next door.

Re: Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

I personally feel there are many hotels very close, it all mainy depends on what kind of money your willing to spend and what kind of qualities your looking for in a hotel, but thats just my opinion. :-)

Re: Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

We had talked about the DL hotel but decided to save the 279 dollars for 4 nights in a Value resort at WDW next year! Funny how a Disney-lover can rationalize spending/saving money isn't it?

What we want is the three C's. Clean, close and cheap! LOL
I found the Ramada Saga for 50.00. Anyone stayed here?

Re: Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

Zoey, for clean, close and cheap I would have to recommend the Alpine Inn on Katella. DH and I lived there for a little while, and we were quite pleasantly surprised by how clean the rooms were! Their rooms were recently remodeled; I believe they changed management as well. The bathrooms were very small (but sparkling and spotless) and the decor was bright and pleasant. We were able to get a King room for 2 adults in the middle of summer for only $42 per night! They have a nice pool, and a continental breakfast, though I wouldn't recommend the breakfast because it's only pre-packaged danishes and one pot of coffee.

The reason I also recommend the Alpine Inn is because they are just steps from the Convention Center crosswalk, a footpath that leads directly into the Timon parking lot. From there, you can take the parking tram the rest of the way into the main entance plaza. It's about the same walk as you would encounter from any of the closest hotels on Harbor, with a short tram ride tacked on. Absolutely worth it.

PLUS, if you request a room on the 2nd floor facing DCA, you can watch the Maliboomer shoot up all day long, and even watch California Screamin'! We had a room on the first floor (I want to say 202, but don't quote me on that?) and even from our window we could see the top 1/3rd of the Maliboomer. That was really special, because I was working at the Maliboomer at the time!

As it is an economy motel, you do forego some of the extras like free local phone calls, etc. Local phone calls cost 35 cents, and even the ice machine requires change I think. It's up to you whether or not you would use those amenities enough to justify the extra expense somewhere else!

For one step up in price and quality, the Desert Palm Inn & Suites next door is one of my absolute favorite places to stay. DH and I honeymooned there! We had a King suite with a bedroom & living area w/ sofa bed for only $65/night in May!

Sorry...to blab your ears off. Good luck making your choice!

The next time i go, this coming new year, i am staying at Carousel inn...i stayed there as a kid, and wanted to go back...i remember it being totally within walking distance...and its a nice hotel. We got rooms for $70 a night, which, considering it is during new years, i thought was a STEAL!!!

Flounder, I agree! Carousel Inn is GREAT!! DH and I stayed there on an impromptu DLR trip about a year ago. Most hotels were full (because we went without a reservation) but Carousel had a 2-room suite for $109/night. It was BEAUTIFUL, comfortable and in very convenient walking distance!! Having the extra room was a plus, too.

Does the Grand Californian count? Entrance into DCA and about 600 feet or so to the Disneyland Main Gate.

Re: Closest Hotel to DL Pedestrian entrance?

Yes, it counts (of course!) but I think she's looking to stay off property closest to the pedestrian entrance into the complex, and DTD which PP and DLH is near and GD is in is pretty far (for walking) from all of of the off-property hotels.
