Icon11 Candy Cane , Park Vue , Del Sol, Desert Inn and suites

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but have been having a look at all your reviews which are very helpful....I know most of the following places have been asked about but thought I'd just see what everyone thought anyway.

My brother and I are annual passholders and we have always stayed at a Disney Resort hotel wether at disneyland or disneyworld and I was living for a while in so-cal so we always just drove. But now that I am back at school full time and working less we need a good hotel/motel on a tight budget....

We were looking at
Candy Cane Inn
Desert Inn and Suites
Parke Vue Inn
Del Sol Inn

We had been thinking Candy Cane or Park Vue. I notice Candy Cane Inn has wonderful reviews....but it is a little further. It is sometimes hard to tell on a map (I looked at the one posted on this forum earler) and it looks like you have to walk the entire length of California park to get to the main gate. I know it isn't that far but we are spending 10 days in the park....and we like to get there before the gates open, ALWAYS stay all day without leaving the park, and don't exit until the park closes.....so I am sure by day 6 or 7 we will want somewhere close. We never use the pool or anything, we just want a place to crash at night that is clean and reliable.

Anyways I guess my main questions are:

What are the continental breakfasts like at these places?
How big is the difference in distance to the main gate enterance?
And which anyone would reccomend given the info above?

sorry for the long post!
Thanks in advance!

We are interested also. Spending our pre-Disney night there.

You can walk from the Candy Cane in right to Disneyland. And it is a very very nice place!

Re: Candy Cane , Park Vue , Del Sol, Desert Inn and suites

Welcome to DC!

I can tell you about the Candy Cane, but it's been a long time (1995?) since I stayed at Desert Inn, so I'll leave that out.

As Dopey said, you can easily walk to DL from the CC. It takes my family about 7 minutes from room to security (that is with 3 kids). Yes, it's about the length of DCA, but it's no problem at all--and not creepy at night--well lit and landscaped. There is also a free shuttle the hotel runs as an option.

The rooms are nicely decorated, comfey beds, pillows and sheets. The plantation shutters add a homey feel to the room opposed to gross old motel drapes. Bathroom is nothing special, but clean and in good condition.

The staff are great. Very nice, and housekeeing and gardners are seen but not heard (no blowers--and I didn't hear the housekeepers chatting outside my room).

The grounds of this little motel (park outside your door, open breezeways and no elevator to get to the second story, only stairs) are beautiful. It is a small space, but there is a lot of pride taken in making it not feel like just another parking lot. The pool is small, but adequate, there is a hot tub and a toddler pool. Lots of flowering plants!

The breakfast is good, some people rave about it, but I don't. Small muffins and small croissants that are sort of taseless IMO, but the bagel with cream cheese, cereal and fruit are great (grab an apple for the park). Simple, but nice to have.

There is an ABC (convience store) adjacent to the property, and a 7-11 next to that and I think a Subway across the street. Lots of dining options.

We are going in August for 3 nights. Good luck!!!

Re: Candy Cane , Park Vue , Del Sol, Desert Inn and suites

Candy Cane Inn always gets two thumbs up from me...it is a WONDERFUL place to stay. The breakfast, location, room & rate are all a big plus. I definitely recommend the CCI.

Desert Inn has a great location (so does Park Vue, but I have not stayed there)...my only hesitation on Desert Inn is that its AAA ratings & such have fluctuated a lot. The quality of their rooms & services seems to be inconsistent, possibly due to changing management?

For a price comparable to Desert Inn/Park Vue & often cheaper than CCI, go one property further and go for the Desert PALM Inn & Suites. It's a few steps further from the gate than CCI (just around the corner on Katella) but the newly-remodeled hotel is GORGEOUS. They have a decent continental breakfast, beautiful rooms, competitive rates, a pool & a spa. It felt like a 3-1/2 star hotel for a 2-star price.

Re: Candy Cane , Park Vue , Del Sol, Desert Inn and suites

I was at a work thingy at the ANaheim Marriott and I wa walking to Disney daily when I wasn't in stuffy adult meetings. I remember passing the Candy Cane Inn on my walks to and fro. I don't remember the Desert Inn. Candy Cane Inn seemed nice. So my input isn't worth a bunch but if my wife and I were going tomorrow I'd definetly consider it.

(I remembered a random place that appeared nice enough so I guess maybe my opinion should count for that. I think its safe!)

THERE ARE BUNCHES OF DINING OPTIONS VERY CLOSE TO THERE. Denny's = 24hrs and cheap! There are 2 less than a mile from each other.

The bummer is my entire trip to California (1 week) from CHicago I never got to an In-N-Out Burger and it really bums me out. I really wanna try one!

OMG, you had to mention In-N-Out Burger?!?!

That was the last thing DH and I ate before we left California. I haven't had one in almost a year! Waaaaaaaahhhhh!

Thanks for the input. We always stay at deluxe hotels so we were a little nervous about booking something cheap. You always hear horror stories that make you wanna cringe! But it's nice to get info. from people who have actually been in them, cause you can't always trust what you read.

I know that feeling! That's why I heartily recommend Desert Palm. It was a nice hotel *before* the renovation, and then they basically started from the ground up when they re-did it. It's beautiful! Try searching their website for good prices; that's where we found ours.

Re: Candy Cane , Park Vue , Del Sol, Desert Inn and suites

I just booked Del Sol for 4 nights in October for $51 a night on Expedia. I'm a bit nervous because we usually stay on property but we are going with another family so we are economising. Expedia had better rates than any other site we tried.
