Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

We stayed at the Red Roof Anaheim last May and I HIGHLY recommend it! The rooms were clean, it was almost all families. Very easy walk. It looks a little far on the maps, but it's really not and the walk fine. We made it several times the days we were there. You can get the resort transportation for about $10 for several days, but after walking it we decided it wasn't worth it and the stroll was fine.

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

We usually stay at the Red Roof as well; we really like the rooms, rates, and the staff is very friendly. The walk isn't too awful, but it certainly isn't right across the street like some hotels. Last time we came down, we used Priceline, and got the Hilton for like, $50/night or something; truly a great bargain! Everyone raves about the Candy Cane Inn, which is about a block and a half away or so, if that. They are a bit closer to $100/night or so, not sure exactly, as I haven't stayed there (the wife did, but when she was younger).

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

I second (or third? ) the nomination for Red Roof Inn, if you are looking for something basic, cheap and comfortable. We have stayed there several times and for how much $$ you save, the little extra walk it is absolutely worth it! You can usually snag a room there for $55-$65 per night.

Candy Cane Inn is beautiful, and a slightly (very slightly) shorter walking distance than the Red Roof. Rooms there will probably run you upwards of $90.

If there's any chance you are willing to drive (or take the Anaheim Resort Transit) versus walk, I do highly recommend giving Priceline a try. As DH said, we managed to get the Anaheim Hilton for $50/night. We used the ART buses and never had a problem, they were quick and convenient, and we went back to a gorgeous hotel every night with extra money in our pockets!

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

Priceline makes most of the hotels affordable within walking distance, and those outside the city limits.

I've found it's a tradeoff.

The cost for the hotel is the same, but the hotels in Anaheim hit you up with high parking.

Hotels in neighboring cities don't.

Of course, if you don't have a car, it's a non-issue.

Then again, I have an annual pass that gives you free parking at Disneyland.

Bottom line, use expedia for general quotes, then priceline for the great deals.

Hope this helps.

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

If you're looking at either staying on property or not I would say stay on. Paradise Pier is a little less pricey and isn't a horrible walk to the parks. The Disneyland Hotel would be my vote. It has the perfect location and the rooms are wonderful. The Grand Californian is a little pricey but beautiful. Hope this helps!

I love The Embassy Suites Hotel Anaheim South. My family has stayed there SO many times when going to Disneyland!!! And I go there twice a year or more. I highly recommend them.

About the Red Roof: If you've got kids, I think you'll find it a long, whiny walk to the parks. For adults, no problem at all. It's not just across the street, but perfectly reasonable.

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

We've stayed in Portofino Inn and Candy Cane Inn. Both were great. We stayed in the Park Vue for one night, hated it, and moved to the Portofino.

The Portofino would be my choice with kids, as they have kids suites. But the Candy Cane Inn was just lovely. They offered a free breakfast by the pool every morning too.

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

I've stayed at the Park Vue Inn and it was great! The best part is was really right across from Disneyland. It was right next to the main crosswalk to DL. It was like a 5 minute walk to the front gates. Another good one nearby is the Desert Inn. However, parking spaces are pretty tight and you might end up parking underground. I've also stayed at the Penny Savers Inn, which was about a 10 minute walk to Disney. It saved me pennies, but it was also kind of ghetto. Paint peeled in places I didn't know had paint. The pool looked like someone filled it up with a garden hose and strange things were floating in it! Yuck!

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

When we went last year we stayed at the Candy Cane Inn. My family recommended it to us, as they had stayed there many times.

It is a short walk to the parks. It's on the same side of the street. There is also a free shuttle that runs from the hotel to the parks. They have a free continental breakfast. There is a small pool, a hot tub, and a laundry room. There was a microwave and a little refrigerator in the room we got. They have a website that describes everything. We got a cheaper rate booking in advance on-line.

Re: Disneyland Hotels or Good Neighbor Hotels

I stayed at the Embassy Suites...The hotel was very nice but the parking fees and the shuttle rides were a hassle.

We have NEVER had a problem with either the Carosel or the Tropicana. They are both good neighbor hotels on Harbor and nearly EXACTLY across the street from DLR. We have stayed at each one many times over the past 5 years and they are great on the wallet. If you use the hotel room like we do (basically a place to sleep when we are not in the park) then they are perfect for that.

Both have a basic comp. breakfast available (rolls, cereal, oatmeal, milk juices, muffins, ect). Because we go often, we can not afford to go to one of the DLR hotels every time. Those two good neighbor hotels have always served us VERY well.
