Hotel recommendations for DL?

Hi all -

DH and I are taking the boys to DL in October and we were wondering which local hotels/motels you would recommend. The budget is a little tight for one of the Disney properties this trip, so we thought we'd try one of the nearby hotels. We stayed at the BW Stovall's the last trip and weren't very impressed - dark room and it didn't feel clean, plus the breakfast was pretty miserable.

Until that trip, I'd never had to worry about where to stay since my parents still lived in OC, and I just never paid attention to the local hotels.

Any recommendations? We'll have a 4 1/2 year old and a 1 year old with us, and we're looking at the end of October.

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

I've never personally stayed there but a friend was staying at Candy Cane Inn when I visited several years ago and I got to stop and see it, it was really nice. Her room was spacious and pretty. I think I even remember her having a kitchenette in her room, or at least a microwave, etc. I would stay there if I had to stay off property. Disneyland Anaheim Boutique Hotel at the Candy Cane Inn

Also, one of my co-workers stayed at the Radisson Hotel-Maingate last June and said she'd definately go back. Actually, I think they are in September. Radisson Hotels & Resorts. Hotel reservations for leisure and business travel.

Although, don't rule out Paradise Pier and the Disneyland Hotel. You might be pleasantly surprised with the prices on standard view rooms, especially if you can find a code! Good luck!

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

I have only ever stayed at the Candy Cane Inn and we absolutely love this place.
It is very close to DL, walking distance actually.

Wish has provided a link, I wonder what you think.

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

The Candy Cane does look interesting. We'll definitely have to keep that in mind. We're still not sure of our exact dates yet - we just know we want to avoid the first weekend in October.

With two little ones you may want to check out the Portofino Inn and Suites, which is right next to the Candy Cane Inn and has kids suites. Very pretty, very clean and nice, shuttles to and from the park if you don't feel like making the walk (it's not far) and very reasonable.

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

My tip of the day: If you like the Candy Cane Inn then be sure to book early!

I have tried to stay there several times before during the off-season and it has always been booked! I have heard many good things about the Candy Cane Inn, so I am very open to trying it one of these day...

Good luck!

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

I highly recommend Desert Palm Inn & Suites, which is right in the same vicinity as Candy Cane and Portofino. It is a doable walk...especially since Desert Palm is close to the convention center walkway that goes directly into the Timon parking lot. From there you can take the tram to the main esplanade.

We stayed here for our honeymoon, and found it to be a beautiful property with a lot of amenities for a not-so-big-price. (We found a great rate on their website.) They have suites as well, in case you need extra space for your family. A lot of their suites overlook DCA!

They have a good-sized continental breakfast in a room with a gorgeous DCA view, and they play Disneyland music outside their front doors 24 hours a day, so you always have a festive feeling when coming or going!

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

Dizzy is right about the Desert Palm Inn & Suites. I have heard lots of great things about that hotel too and those suites and kid friendly rooms are awesome!

By the way Dizzy, how would you compare the walk from the Desert Palm with that of Paradise Pier to the front gates??? I may need to give the Desert Palm a try next spring...

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

I highly, highly recommend Embassy Suites Hotel Anaheim South. My family, which consists of children the ages of 9, 13, and 16 years old, has stayed there about 6 times and have never had a dissapointment.

It is located near Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure, and the rooms are great! We always get the 2-room suite because we have a family of 5, and it's very clean and comfy. There is complimentary, hot breakfast every morning, and there is a frequent snack bar that consists of the usual (chips, soda, punch, trail mix, etc.) that I loved to go to when I was craving for something to eat.

The atmosphere is really nice and the decor is too. You should check it out when you have the time!

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

We stayed at Red Roof Anaheim and were very pleased. On the map it looked like a pretty long walk, but it really wasn't. We were very happy with the service and the rooms.

If budget restraints are an issue, I suggest priceline. Each and every hotel I've stayed at (see below) was a priceline wonder, 2.5 stars or higher, and all under $50.00 a night.

Some, however, are outside walking distance, and I'm not sure if you have a car..

Re: Hotel recommendations for DL?

We will have a car. Since I used to live there, we are going for several days, but only spending 2 in the parks. We'll use the rest of the time to visit family and friends.
That's also why I need recommendations - until 2 years ago, my parents still lived in the area. Hotels were a non-issue.
Now, if I could just settle on a date...

I know this is a fairly old thread but I also wanted to post my vote for the Desert Palm Inn & Suites. We stayed there late 2005 and it was a great experience, especially for the price. We were very happy there and definitely within walking distance.

Have you found a room yet?

Priceline is still a winner for me, especially if you have a car..

All the hotels in my signature were from priceline...

I mean, the Candy Cane Inn is nice, but why give up on the Hyatt Regency when you can stay there for $45.00 a night?
