Locks had to be taken off suitcase or they were cut off... (mine was). You weren't allowed to bring anything to drink in. No scissor or nail clippers (ect) allowed on the planes, now you can carry nail clippers on and rounded scissors.. Things will change, when I don't know. I am hoping before I leave so I can take my drops on the plan with me.... I know, I am only thinking of myself... But then again, I might be able to keep them in my pocket....they are in a plastic bottle... Thought.... what do you think?

Re: no liquids in carry ons
I haven't read all of your posts yet but this whole thing today has me very uset. One thing I will NEVER complain about is having to be inconvenienced for the sake of security. Whatever the airline rules are I will be grateful that they are taking precautions on our behalf.

I am going to keep reading the announcements at the airport and see if they lighten the restrictions up. I love the idea of being able to bring a water bottle on the plane... and love to have my lip gloss in my handbag... But you gotta do what you gotta do...

I am with alicefan, what ever it takes--even a $10 chapstick, it's not too big a price to pay for tight security. It's an inconvience, but not as big an inconvience if this hadn't been discovered.

Re: no liquids in carry ons
I dont know about the USA but the Home Office and Department of Transport has clearly stated that we can't carry anything on board even after security books or chapstick-nothing at all-The plastic bags (which have to be clear/ see through) are also going to be taken from you and handed back at the aircraft door- we have also heard that we cannot buy duty free items like perfume as they are liquid- and we agree anything that keeps us safe is fine by us

Re: no liquids in carry ons
For our international MBers here is info from the UK:
Alert at UK Airports Media Statement10 August 2006 Alert at UK Airports - 13:15am Following this morning's police operation, the Department for Transport has asked all UK airports to apply additional security measures designed to ensure passenger safety. Hand baggage restrictions: These measures will prevent passengers from carrying hand luggage into the cabin of an aircraft with the following excepts (which must be placed in a plastic bag): pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags)); travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets); prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (e.g. diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic. spectacles and sunglasses, without cases. contact lens holders, without bottles of solution. for those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags).female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes). tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs keys (but no electrical key fobs) All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be x-ray screened. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger. Pushchairs and walking aids must be x-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point. In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the USA and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, must be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger.

Re: no liquids in carry ons
Traveling as much as I do, I have had to wait at both the counter and security... you know I would rather wait an hour in line for the counter than an hour for security... I feel that I am going to miss my flight.
But then again, if I haven't checked my bags yet, I will be able to change a flight...

Re: no liquids in carry ons
This is from the spirit airlines website:
The following information was issued by the Department of Homeland Security. Please be advised and plan accordingly. We appreciate your patience. EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY By Order of the Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration: PASSENGERS MAY NOT HAVE LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY SIZE AT THE SCREENING CHECKPOINT OR IN THE CABIN OF THE AIRCRAFT This includes beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency. Such items may be transported in checked baggage. Passengers may have: Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling. Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket. Insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines. Beverages purchased in the sterile area must be consumed before boarding the aircraft. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Statement By Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff Announcing A Change To The Nation's Threat Level For The Aviation Sector Press Office U.S. Department of Homeland Security August 10, 2006 The Department of Homeland Security is taking immediate steps to increase security measures in the aviation sector in coordination with heightened security precautions in the United Kingdom. Over the last few hours, British authorities have arrested a significant number of extremists engaged in a substantial plot to destroy multiple passenger aircraft flying from the United Kingdom to the United States. Currently, there is no indication, however, of plotting within the United States. We believe that these arrests have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted. For that reason, the United States Government has raised the national threat level to Severe, or Red, for commercial flights originating in the United Kingdom bound for the United States. This adjustment reflects the Critical, or highest, alert level that has been implemented in the United Kingdom. To defend further against any remaining threat from this plot, we will also raise the threat level to High, or Orange, for all commercial aviation operating in or destined for the United States. Consistent with these higher threat levels, the Transportation Security Administration is coordinating with federal partners, airport authorities and commercial airlines on expanding the intensity of existing security requirements. Due to the nature of the threat revealed by this investigation, we are prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, hair gels, and lotions from being carried on the airplane. This determination will be constantly evaluated and updated when circumstances warrant. These changes will take effect at 4:00 AM local time across the country. Travelers should also anticipate additional security measures within the airport and at screening checkpoints. These measures will continue to assure that our aviation system remains safe and secure. Travelers should go about their plans confidently, while maintaining vigilance in their surroundings and exercising patience with screening and security officials. The United States and the United Kingdom are fully united and resolute in this effort and in our ongoing efforts to secure our respective homelands.

Re: no liquids in carry ons
I wonder if we can mail a package to our room before we leave so that things like contact solution and baby formula will be there waiting... I have a feeling I might have to have my friend from college do shopping for me! Thank god she lives in Orlando!
