Disneyland monorail question.

OK, I've been to Disneyland three times now; once in '01, '03, then '06 (soon to be 4 times, come June ) I was just watching "Disneyland: Behind the Scenes" on the Travel Channel & right when they were talking about Soarin' in Cali. Adventure the monorail passed by the Condor Flats Soarin' building! I SWARE I do not EVER remember going past Soarin' on the monorail!!! I know in '01 & '03 I probably only rode the monorail once or twice but this past June my Dad & I used it QUITE often & went NOWHERE near DCA!! We just went from DtD to Tomorrowland and back.

What's the scoop DL pros?

Yeah, if you are leaving downtown disney towards Tomorrowland, you go through the Grand Californian , then you see the area for Condor Flats, over the Golden Gate, and then past Monster's Inc.

Pay attention, girl!

OK, I SWARE TO YOU in June I DID NOT see any of this!!! I remember walking UNDER the monorail tracks in Downtown Disney but when we took the monorail we didn't even GO through DtD, we went through some woods, then straight into Tomorrowland... next to the new Nemo attraction.

Re: Disneyland monorail question.

Hey Wishy, I've got your answer!

Last year, the Disneyland monorail began making one-way trips back and forth between DTD and Tomorrowland only, and skipping the rest of its route. This is because they needed to use the monorail as transportation more than an attraction, to shuttle people in and out of the park when crowds got really huge. (Which, during the 50th, was pretty much all the time! )

They also have been making one-way-only trips to avoid passing over the lagoon while it is being worked on. Making the one-way trips means that the monorail only has to pass BY the lagoon, and not actually over it, where guests could look in and see everything.

I don't know what to tell you about your past trips to DL, though, because it used to make the full circuit so there's a good chance you've ridden it over the DCA bridge!

Re: Disneyland monorail question.

Oh and by "last year" I think I actually meant to say 2005. I keep forgetting it's 2007 already...even though it's April!

AHHHHH, thank you Kim!!!! That makes sense 'cause I remember seeing all the other tracks last June but my Dad and I never thought to ask why we weren't riding over them. I figured it had SOMETHING to do with the Nemo constuction but I thought maybe it was just avoiding large construction equipment or something, 'cause the monorail tracks seem so low to me, like they'd get in the way. I am SURE I had to have ridden over the DtD/DCA portion of the monorail at some point in '01 or '03, I guess it was just so long ago I don't remmeber at all.

SO, when we stay at the Grand Californian this summer the closest spot to get the monorail is the DtD station where I was getting it last summer? I guess the most sensible thing is to get it from Tomorrowland whenever we are in the DL park & want to go walk around DtD or go to the DL Hotel for dinner, etc.

I can't wait, I am SO excited to go back to DL!!! I Disneyland!

Re: Disneyland monorail question.

Does anyone know when the FULL monorail track is going to open again? I am assuming around when Nemo opens?

Yup, you will still hop on the monorail at the DTD station. That is the only place to board from outsude of the park.

There's a chance the monorail could go back to its full circuit after the Nemo attraction opens, I guess it just depends whether or not the crowds still call for extra transportation! Disney is kind of basing their decision on efficiency right now, I think. I like the extra route, getting to go between the buildings of the Grand Californian and over DCA...but...

...so far I think the TL-DTD route is working out great; it sure is a nice quick way to hop out of the park for lunch or something!

I am excited for you, getting to go back to Disneyland!! I can't believe the subs are going to be opening so soon!!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that construction doesn't get behind! You should have a great chance at them being open when you go, especially if we all pray and sprinkle some extra pixie dust just in case!
