Using American Express gift cards in Disneyland?

A family member was kind enough to give us two generous $50. American Express gift cards for our 5 year wedding anniversary. Of course I want to tuck this away for our trip, in ONLY 18 DAYS BY THE WAY

, and I am a little nervous about them. I've never had an Amex credit card, nor ever used a Amex gift card.

Will these be widely accepted around the Disneyland Resort? At restaurants, for souveniers, etc?

Also, if I am making a purchase for MORE than the amount of the card do I have to tell the cashier the balance of my card so they can ring that amount?

I think we'll just use them for our dinner at Napa Rose. Do you think they'll give us trouble for using two seperate $50 ones?

If you're worried, buy disney dollars, or a disney gift card with them, that way you know they'll be accepted.

Absolutely! I just did that at the Gap...took a $50 Visa gift card, and purchased a $50 gap gift card for a friend. weird, I know, but the cashier didn't care!

Besides, it's better to buy something with the exact amount when using amex or visa gift cards, because you don't want to end up with a weird amount, like 54 cents on the card...not many stores will run the card if it only has a few cents on it.

Wish, don't worry yourself.

At least when I was a card member, American Express was the official card of Disneyland. It is acceptable everywhere: Disneyland, California Adventure, and Downtown Disney.. Just hand over the cards when you wish to use them. The CM's know the drill.

Shouldn't be a bother at all. Napa Rose even takes Disney Dollars..

That's exactly what we did. We got a Visa Gift card (two of them for $50.00) as a rebate when we bought new phones. So we took them to the Disney store and bought Disney Dollars with them. Make sure you tell the cashier to ring up 50.00 at a time. If you try and use the card for more than your purchase it won't just show up with a balance it will reject the card. It took us about twenty minutes to figure that out..but that may have just been our cards.

I ended up buying a $100 Disney gift card when I went to the mall the other day with these Amex gift cards. It was easy, and now I have just one card!
WOOHOO, less than 2 weeks to go!

Definitely the right choice!

I had the same thing happen to me that Bella did- the gift cards can be a little quirky about how they get rung up. You're better off not having to mess with that at the park!
