Re: Disneyland Paris Here I Come!

Hi Towncar!

So glad you checked in. I will defintiely keep in mind that PM-ing you is A-Ok!

I am very excited about DLR Paris. Have been doing alot of research the last few days, and am going to be booking everything in the next week or so.

In terms of hotels - I'm definitely one for theming and style. I'm not too worried about spending a bit of extra cash since this will probably be a one time only trip for us.

I did look at the Disneyland hotel as my first choice - but something about the style is totally not us. I prefer a more contemporary or whimsical style. I think that is why currently, the New York is what we are thinking.

i would definitely consider staying at the Sequoia Lodge as well though, since it looks really nice and the scenery is apparently beautiful?

If money isn't an issue, which of these 2 would you stay at?

Also - is 2.5 days enought time to see both parks?

Do you have any recommendations on places to eat dinner?

Also, The Wild West Show - I don't see tickets available for anytime after mid-March. Do you think its just because they haven't released them yet?

In Paris itself, we are planning to stay here. Is the location central enough?

Thank for your help Towncar!

Re: Disneyland Paris Here I Come!

I do speak some French - did French immersion in elementary school and some of it has stuck with me. Trsut me, I will definitely have my maple leaf sewn on somewhere.

Ok, I have 1 more question - do you have suggestions on the best way to see Paris? Is the "Paris Pass" worth it? Or the Museum Pass?

I'll have a think and give you a fuller reply this evening. I'd definitely stay at the Sequoia Lodge every time, although in fairness I have never stayed at the New York. The NY is definitely contemporary. You might also like the SL as it is Canadian themed. Probably not based on downtown Toronto I'd guess though!! I have a cousin in Brampton, which I understand isn't too far from Toronto?

Oh one other thing, if budget really isn't an issue. If you stay at a suite in the Disneyland Hotel, you receive a VIP fastpass for the duration of your stay. That alone is worth the price as it is a fastpass that is valid for all fastpass rides for the whole of your stay. You just walk on rides all day. Especially useful for the new ToT I'd think. We found it to be the best thing ever as I HATE queuing up for anything.

Brampton is very close to Toronto, its a suburb, part of the GTA "greater Toronto Area". I have a number of friends that live there.

Is the VIP fastpass for all guests of the Disneyland Hotel? Or Just the Suite guests?

Technically it's just for suite guests, according to their web site, but I admit to having charmed my way to a few of them in the past. Fortunately I'm something of a polyglot and it often works to speak to some of he CM's from other EU countries in their own language. I think that was the reason, but it may just have been my good looks. Miss D will vouch for me.

I think it might be worth a telephone call to the hotel to see if you can blag a VIP pass if you don't want to book a suite.. They are worth their weight in gold. In fact, given that they probably only weigh a few grammes, I guess they are worth a lot more. I'm off to look at a few Paris sites before I get back to you on the Paris hotel.

OK. I think we've done the park hotels, so I'll move on to the other questions.

2.5 days is probably enough to see both parks, but you will definitely only scratch the surface. However, having said that, you need to spend a fair bit of time in Paris itself in order to do justice to one of the world's truly great cities. I love to do nothing more than wander around Paris soaking up the sights, the sounds the smells and the atmosphere. It's not as French as it used to be and sadly there are the usual offerings from Starbucks and Macdonalds that you can find anywhere in the world now. So yes, I think 2.5 days is enough if you are going to do Paris properly as well.

Dinner in the park can only be at the Blue Lagoon, which is actually part of the attraction in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' which I guess will appeal greatly to you. We have never dined there as our children won't eat anything from the (mainly fish) restaurant. I don't think you will be disappointed though. Very atmospheric and themed like a beachside restaurant. One day we'll go there and eat by candlelight as the boats glide past. the faces of their occupants etched with excitement on their way into their pirate adventures. Yo ho, Yo ho! A pirate's dinner for me!

As for dinner in Paris itself, well where do I start? There are too many to choose from. You won't have trouble finding a restaurant to fit any taste and any budget in Paris. However........More on this soon.

Turning to the Wild West Show, I don't think you will have any trouble getting tickets. There are two shows every evening. It's a dinner show (the usual fried chicken ans stuff) well worth seeing. A bit pricey, but what the heck? It took us 10 years before we decided to go and I was glad that I did. I think it's probably because you are so far out that you can't get tickets online.

I think your hotel is in a great location. In fact it's a really good place to base yourself. Close to major attractions and museums. I think you are quite close to the Pompidou Centre (great if you love modern art and a half day on its own). Notre Dame is a very short walk and you are within walking distance of the Musee D'Orsay and the Louvre.

I just had another thought so I'm off to see another couple of sites. Back soon with more info!

Re: Disneyland Paris Here I Come!

I think the next tip may well be worth my exorbitant consultancy fee (Did I mention that?) just on its own. I remembered that you are going for your 1st wedding anniversary and recalled one of the most romantic evenings that I have ever spent with my beautiful wife, to whom I will have been married for 25 years in 2009. And where was it? Why in Paris, of course.

Take a look at this site:

/// BATEAUX PARISIENS /// Croisières Paris Seine, Cruise Paris Seine, Visit Paris, Visite Paris, Bateaux Paris, Boat Paris, Bateau paris, Restaurant Bateaux Paris, péniche Paris, Restaurant Boat Paris

First of all a warning - Beware of cheesy background music!! Not at all representative of the quality of the evening you will have. I will paint a picture in words for you.

You will have taken a taxi from your hotel, dressed in your best bib and tucker. Your husband will have dug out the suit and tie that he last wore a year ago to the very day. You will look stunning in your figure-hugging cocktail dress that one day you wil wish you could still fit into, but thankfully for now it still fits like a glove.

You will take your man's strong arm as he escorts you down the steps alongside the Pont D'Iena right at the foot of the Eiffel Tower itself. As VIP guests you will be escorted to the front of the line and be given priority boarding at the very front of the glass-topped floating restaurant that will be the setting for your romantic, first anniversary dinner cruise on the beautiful River Seine.

For three hours or more you will be wined and dined and fed on a diet of live entertainment of the highest quality as the floodlit sights of Paris glide silently by outside the window on a journey that takes in a thousand years of history.

Hors d'ouvres at the Eiffel Tower and dessert at Notre Dame will be followed by dancing and a nightcap before your beau whisks you off back to your hotel, souvenir photographs in hand and a head full of golden memories that you will treasure forever. That is a dinner cruse with Bateaux Parisien.

I hope you get the idea. We did it a few years ago and it still makes me tingle to remember it. We paid for the most expensive option (as I recall only about 30 Euros each extra over the basic package) so we didn't have to wait in line and got priority VIP treatment. It was money well spent. The all-inclusive wine was wasted on a non-drinker like me, but the people on the next table thought it was Christmas as I passed a few bottles their way. In my view, it is by FAR the most romantic thing to do in Paris and what better way to spend your first anniversary together. You will remember it for the rest of your lives! Trust me. I'm old and I know these things!

The website is easy to follow and booking is simple. Don't bother with the daytime cruises. There is a far better and cheaper way to do the glass-topped boat thing during the day. Visit the Batobus site.

/// NAVETTES BATOBUS PARIS /// Promenade et Transport en bateau sur la Seine, croisière sur la seine, croisière paris | 8 escales

This is a hop-on, hop-off water taxi service that you can use all day and night. You can get tickets for one day or two days or whatever. It's all explained on their site. It's eally inexpensive and a great way to get around Paris.

But if you do only one thing in Paris on your anniversary trip, do the dinner cruise. It's outrageously good! It makes me all tingly just thinking about it!

PS Just looked again and I'm not sure the premier package still offers priority boarding. Definitely is the best seat in the house though. And by the way, don't worry about motion sickness. You hardly notice a thing. The river isn't very wide, so the boat just glides along and there are no waves to speak of at all.

well having stayed at all three of your chosen hotels i would go for Disney’s Sequoia Lodge Hotel and ask for the main lodge building. also consider eating at the other hotels. however for me if you want something nice and special in the park try out Walt’s - an American Restaurant if you can get a window seat when the parade is on just love it.

check out dlrp.co.uk - your magical guide to disneyland resort paris for info on disneyland Paris.

also check out TripAdvisor Reviews of holidays, hotels, resorts, holiday and travel packages - TripAdvisor not sure if it will work in canada

enjoy ya trip
