Disneyland Abroad...?

Well, we've done the parks many times, and sailed away on the cruise. Thinking ahead, and hoping the world settles down by then, we have our eyes on Disneyland Paris (the former "Euro- Disney").
Info on this park is hard to come by. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find guides, reviews, or even books on the matter. I've only spotted a scant few, and the last time I checked online, the info didn't yet include anything on the new parks there. At this point, it's only a spark of a thought for sometime in the next couple of years. But I thought it would be good to get an idea of what it's all about now, anyway.
Any ideas on which would be the best book to get on the subject, or where to look for info? Has anyone here gone? Is it worth the trip?
This would be our first trip abroad,as well.

Thanks!

:)

Hi Tom,
First off, welcome to Disney Central!
Second, thanks so much for responding. We have been trying to find a suitable guidebook, but haven't been happy with any we've seen, so any thoughts on the matter would be wonderful.
We are interested in one that has info on the newer park that's there.
WDW is unimaginably huge and all encompassing. I'm sure you will enjoy it in a different way than you enjoy Disneyland Paris.
We recently met a couple from the UK while on the cruise who were totally enamored of the Florida park, and make it their regular holiday hotspot.

Here's a quick question. We've been sort of prepping for a future trip by learning some basic French. Is this a prerequisite for visiting the parks? Are the attractions bilingual? Multi-lingual?

Hey Tony, I was just going to tell you about Tom but see he has replied! Now, the only thing I can say is that I learned on my Disney Trivia game the SM in Paris goes upside down! So be prepared!!:D I really hope this trip works out for you. Sounds like a dream come true!

Ironically, I've been looking for the same info. I don't know if I want to go to Japan or DL Paris first but hopefully this helps...Go on the disneylandparis website that was posted a few messages above this one (this is where I went last week.) There, you will find a link to order a brochure. I have not received mine yet but when it does arrive, if it has pricings and such in it, I'll be sure to post it. In the meantime, info from everyone is appreciated.:)

Thanks Amethyst,
We did order the brochure from Paris a couple of years ago. THe info still wasn't enough to satisfy our questions, but at least it had a better explanation of the lodging and prices.
We were hoping to go this year, but it doesn't look likely.
Still trying to find someplace to go to OTHER than Disney related, but gosh, there just isn't anywhere else, is there?
:)

Re: Disneyland Abroad...?

We just got back from 5 days at Disneyland Paris this past March. It was fab-oo!!!

Don't worry about things "calming down." Take a cheap AA flight to London and take the Eurostar directly to DLRP.

Pirates there is the best non-thrill ride at any of the resorts - bar none.

Re: Disneyland Abroad...?

Thanks Marysdaddy -
Funny it should come up, as we were discussing this yet again today. How long was the Eurostar ride?
I'm more apt to taking whatever comes, but she's a little more worried about it all.
Also- did you use any particular guidebooks?

Re: Disneyland Abroad...?

Eurostar was 3 hours. Disney has their own coaches, check in desk, etc. Once you get past the security into Waterloo station, they hold your hand the whole way.

Box lunches on the ride there and crayons for the little ones.

We pretty much went on Amazon and ordered anything with Disneyland Paris in the title. Nothing that we read made a difference about how we got there, but made sure that we went on Phantom Manor ride and tried a few things we wouldn't have otherwise.

Re: Disneyland Abroad...?

Hi Mike!! I'm enjoy to see you at Disney central too !! It's a small world after all !! lol
So, I'm french too and I'm unfortunately not bilingual! :D Scuse my grammar level in english.
I have an annual pass and I rather often goes to Disneyland resort Paris and and my only and single purchase was "Disneyland Paris from sketch to reality" As many French I am enough skinflint to have made only one purchase at Disneyland... It is undoubtedly for that that Resort is in a bad financial standing! l

I will test of out of scanner some pages.

Re: Disneyland Abroad...?

Mike!!! long time since I haven't seen you!!!

Welcome on board!

For the new show in DLRP, it has been said that it will not be billingual like usual but one entire show in English, one in French, and so on!

But usually, attractions are billingual and CM speaks English.

Do not hesitate to ask questions if you have.

Re: Disneyland Abroad...?

We went to Disney in Paris about 5 or 6 years ago from the US. Best Space Mountain even though I still like Disney in Orlando much better. One thing I wanted to mention in case anyone goes is the locker situation. In both Disneyland and Disneyworld we usually take some extra clothes, cameras etc... and store them in the lockers all day. Well, unless something has changed recently, they have the same lockers at Disney Paris however they do not allow anyone to use them anymore. It is my understanding that the management is too concerned about bomb type activity so they did away with the use of lockers to the public (or at least that's the story a local gave us). Although this activity would probably not happen I guess they want it to be as safe as possible. It did make the day just a little bit less fun because we had to drag our bags around with us all day. I also thought the castle with the dragoon was pretty cool. Have fun.

Re: Disneyland Abroad...?

Thanks for the advice on the locker situation. I use lockers everytime I go to a Disney park and would have brought extra things and not have been happy about lugging it around all day.

I will be going to Disneyland Paris in March 2005 and don't think I can contain myself. I booked the tickets in May 2004 and it's just been eating me alive. This will be my first time abroad and going to Disney is an extra added bonus.

Thanks for letting me ramble.

They don't use the lockers, but there is a place just outside the park gates where you can leave things and come back for them later in the day. Remember also that if you are staying on site, no hotel is further than ten minutes walk from the park gates and most(New York, Disneyland, Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay) are less than five minutes from the park entrance so it's not a problem to pop back to the hotel often)
