Reservations, can you lie about the number of people with you?

I have no idea how many people my brother will want to bring with him. And i'm getting that they wont know till the very very latest if they're going to eat with us.
My question is, if I make a reservation for four and only 2 show up, do they charge me extra or something?

No, there should be no problem booking a seating for 4 and only showing up with 2. I'm sure this happens all the time.

I think it depends on the restaurant. But when you make your PS's they will tell you if you have to secure w/ a Credit Card or not. If you have to secure it, than you will need to pay for the no-shows. We've made ressies before and haven't kept them w/out a penalty. We've also had some of our party back out of dinner at the last minute and the restaurants are fine with that too.

Oh, that's what I was just coming back to mention. ^^^^^^

If it is a secured reservation, you will probably have to pay for any members of your party who do not show up. But MOST restaurants do not require the CC to secure the reservation.

I have done that before. I usually try to call the morning of to let them know how many of us are going to be coming.

what if it works the other way around and you show up with 5 people instead of the 4 you made PS for?

They plan really specifically around how many people you make a PS for, so you may be forced to "forfeit" your PS and wait for a "walk-in" opening.
