I am going to try the fusilli for sure! Sounds good!

Re: Favorite DLR Food

By the way... What exactly are Beignets? I am getting a bit of a picture from what you guys have said above, but I am still not sure...

And how do you pronounce Beignets? I am sure that I am going to butcher it without help!

It's pronounced "ben yay" and they are oh so yummy!
They are sort of like donuts but not. They are fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar, served warm. My mouth is watering just thinking about them!

Re: Favorite DLR Food

WOW this thread is making my mouth water an obscene amount!
I'm sure I'm just repeating things here.......but here are my faves:
* Dole Whip FLOAT - during the ETR preshow
* Mint Juilips at the Blue Bayou listening to the banjo play scales over and over *sigh*
* Beignets - SOooooooooooooo good! *drool*
* Corn Dogs while waiting for the parade to start
* Pineapple Spear while in line for Peter Pans flight (I always seem to be eating one at that moment)
* Churros! (duh!!!)
My favourite quick meal is the fried chicken and mashed potatoes at the Plaza Inn, I could eat that everyday
The best sit down meal in the chicken stuffed with spinich on a plate of creamy pasta at the Blue Bayou.

Ok, now I'm going to go make a waffle with my new Mickey Mouse waffler hee hee

Re: Favorite DLR Food

okay all, here it is

Mint Julep
from Port Orleans
2¼ cups sugar
6 cups water
2 tablespoons plus ½ tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 12-ounce can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed
1½ tablespoons crème de menthe syrup
Fresh mint sprigs

Serves 8

Combine sugar and water in saucepan. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir in lime juice, lemonade concentrate, and crème de menthe and heat to just below the boiling point (200°). Be careful not to let the mixture boil. Remove from heat and chill to form a thick syrup. For each serving, pour two tablespoons of syrup and 10 ounces of chilled water into a glass of crushed ice and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

My all time favorite snack at DL is the frozen banana, dipped in chocolate and then in nuts. YUMMMMMM
I have never found that at WDW

Churro with chocolate sauce I am still trying to figure out why WDW doesn't have the sauces, just the churros. I also love the taffy from Main St.

ME TOO! ME TOO! ME TOO! I LoooOOOoooOOooooOOOoooove them!

For some reason the rest of my family tends to look at me like I am a bozo when I choose a chocolate and nut covered frozen banana when there are so many other 100% sugar and far less healthy delights available... Oh well! I love them!

And I have made these at home before! I actually made these when I was a kid and never had gone to DL... Then when I finally made it to DL I was so happy to find that little childhood treasure there!

MMMMMM-mm-MMMMMMMMMM!

Re: Favorite DLR Food

Is it just me, or do others think that WDW's churros just aren't anywhere close to DL's? I don't know how they could be different, but they are. I've had to give up on WDW's cause the always seem kinda soggy/stale (plus you can only find them in a few places, unlike DL where they're - thankfully - everywhere).

ks, beignets are apparently available at the Mint Julep bar in NOS (anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong) and at RBJK in DTD. My DM confirmed the latter from her last trip w/ DDad.

(By the way, I may be using "unapproved" abbreviations, but I think us singles w/o kids need to have ways to talk about our families too! )

Princess Tessa - I'm glad you posted the Mint Julep recipe. To be honest, I've never had one at DL... though I've had "real" ones before and I think it explains why Southerners are so mellow (it's pretty much essence of mint w/ some sugar water, rum and burbon! ). May have to try one this trip, since they've come so highly recommended.

Go figure. Well, if you want, we can go together on an imaginary trip to DL and have us a snack Don
