Dining Suggestions

Okay so I am planning for a large group (33 People)... I have never been to DLR before so I need some help.

Ideally the restaurant would be in one of the hotels or Downtown Disney, but I just need the lowdown on DLR restaurants. What are the favs? Also, how far in advance can you make Priority Seatings?

Re: Dining Suggestions

I don't know what the rules are for how far into the future any of them will take resv. Some of the better places to eat in DTD and the hotel area that will accomodate such a huge group would be:

Goofy's Kitchen (in the DLH)
Napalis (in DTD)
Rainforest Cafe (in DTD)

Off the resort on Harbor Blvd there is:

Mimi's Cafe
Tony Romas

they may also be able to accomodate a large group. 33 is a pretty big number though so aside from a minor banquet hall, I don't know many places that can easily handle a group that big. Hope you find some place!! I'd call around and find out who can take a group that large...even if they can't do reservations yet, they should be able to tell you if they can even handle that size of a group.

What is Goofy's Kitchen like? Is that like Chef Mickey's in WDW?

Also has anyone eaten at ESPN Zone?

Re: Dining Suggestions

I have. It's good food and a fun feeling while inside. If you don't like sports, stay away. There are TV's everywhere. It gets very busy, especially if there is a big game on that day. I believe you can make reservations 90 days out if I remember the recording correctly. If you want to try fine dining, the Napa Rose at Grand Californian was excellent.

Re: Dining Suggestions

ESPN Zone is good, but the times I have been there the crowd is large and tends to be less family orientated than many of the other places in the resort.

I haven't been to WDW yet so i can't make any comparisens. Goofy's Kitchen serves pretty good food "buffet" style and various characters come to your table through out the meal to interact with you.

Re: Dining Suggestions

Goofy's Kitchen is DL's answer to Chef Mickey's - a great character buffet! We love it!

ESPN Zone has good food and a fun atmosphere. Only been there once, but we were pleased.

Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen has utterly amazing food...at least by my standards! After eating there during the M&G, it's one of my top priorities for every DL trip!

Re: Dining Suggestions

ESPN Zone is great, Ralph's JK is simply exquisite, of course referring to DtD there are also Tortilla Joe's, House of Blues (not too family oriented), and Naples Ristorante'. Or of course Catal; but that is on a different plane of what to look at for a large group.

Of course you could eat at the hotels; Goofy's Kitchen, PCH Grill, Storyteller's Cafe. I am not sure about each place's ability to accomodate such a large group, but I am sure they see groups like that all the time there.

Like I said, Jazz Kitchen is EXQUISITE, the food is amazing, and the service is pretty good too; not too mention the "jazzy" atmosphere.

Re: Dining Suggestions

So where is this Jazz Kitchen...

The group is teenagers so it doesn't have to be family oriented but we don't want to go to someplace which will be real stuck up or anything.

It's in Downtown Disney. It's great! If you are looking for something off site, Millies is directly across Harbor from Disneyland, it's really good and the prices are great!

Re: Dining Suggestions

For a group of teenagers, maybe Tortilla Jo's would be right up your alley? Mexican food in a casual atmosphere....would sound good to me if I were with a big group of friends!

Jazz Kitchen might be verging on "stuck-up" for a large group of teenagers. Also verging on a little pricey, depending on your budget. But it is a really really excellent restaurant!

I'd recommend looking into Tortilla Jo's or Rainforest Cafe and seeing how they accommodate groups of your size.

I really do think Goofy's Kitchen would be the most fun though!!

Re: Dining Suggestions

I totally agree with dznygrl! Rainforest Cafe is always fun and will probably be able to accommodate your party. I also agree that Goofy's Kitchen would be something to look into. I ate there and loved it!

Call 714-781-7290, thats the live DLR Cast Member Guest Relations hotline, explain to them your situation and they can help you/connect you to somewhere at the resort that can help you. Hope that helped!
