Re: Sleeping Beauty Csstle

I just saw that (the premium pass price) and had to go to the Disneyland site because I didn't believe it.

When we first started buying passes, in 1996 I believe, (back in the day ) the premium was $199, included parking and no blackout dates. Now it's $329?!?! We usually bought the deluxe passes after they phased out the basic pass a few years ago. The basic was the best deal - very few blackout dates and only in the summer and major holidays. It was $99. Now that is equivalent to the current deluxe (last we paid for that 2 years ago was $149 for a two-park deluxe pass) and had few blackout dates. Forget the lowest level pass (the Southern California Select) unless you really want to be limited (no weekends or summer) and the reg. So. Cal pass is now the same price as the deluxe used to be!!

Back in the day, the price went up $10 a year, but you paid your original purchase price as long as you renewed before your expiration date. So we paid $99 for the basic *every year* until it was phased out in 2001 or so. No wonder they had us keep coming back... Then we moved to the deluxe which was $129 at first and then when CA Adventure opened it became $149. The passes *used* to be worth their weight in gold but now I'm not so sure...

Re: Sleeping Beauty Csstle

When we planned our trip to Disneyland, we were concerned about how the renovations would affect us. Shortly after I put my payment in, the castle was covered, and we were pretty disappointed, since gf had never been to DL and one of the things she always wanted to see was "the" castle.
We kept watching the progress, and I kept hoping for the best...

WELL, when we got there, we were pleasantly surprised to see that some more of the front turrets were visible - much more than had been before.
During a tour we took, we were told we'd seen more of the castle than most people had in weeks.

WISHES DO COME TRUE-- on Monday, we returned to MK to find that the front banner had FINALLY been taken away -- if only during construction - and we were treated to a behind the scenese glimpse of the refurbishment at well as a real glimpse at the centerpiece of the park.. TO say we were thrilled beyond belief is an understatement!

Here is the way it looked on Monday:

By the way- on Tuesday - MORE of it was visible, and the front area was clearer.

The perfect topper of our trip was to see the castle in it's shiny new state!

It looks awesome!

We were there last night, but at CA Adventure for the CM Little Monsters party, so we didn't see it. (Plus it was raining) I can't wait to see it.

In looking out the window I know you aren't staying dry right now but I hope you're still having fun!

Re: Sleeping Beauty Csstle

I think the 1 day two park ticket is a good idea, when I was there on a bussiness trip last year, I ended up paying for two one day tickets to visit both parks. I now have learned that our convention, that we go to, has specials, such as late day admission for $21.95 and two day specials for real cheap!
Thanks for the great link, can't wait to get to the original...DISNEYLAND...

Actually - we got home late last night - so we are home and dry (it's not raining in NY). We just missed the rain, thankfully.
You guys have really odd weather this time of year - very warm one minute - very chilly the next - made using the pool kinda difficult, but we managed.

Anyway- here is the surprise that we saw on our very last walk into Disneyland on Tuesday morning. A wonderful, thrilling sendoff, as the castle is nearly done...

Many people from out-of-state assume that they can arrive any time of year and expect beach weather! It snowed - yes snowed - in many areas of Southern California last night, some areas in the mountains up to 24 inches. It usually doesn't snow this early but last year I do remember that it was the snow and rain that finally put out all those wildfires - that was in October as well. And a few days before that, we were at the pumpkin patch with my dd's preschool and it was 97 degrees. Who knew? LOL

And right now it is coming down in buckets. We were at CA Adventure last night - in the rain - it was quite a California Adventure, to be literal.

We were in Maui a few years back and went up to Haleakea (elevation 10,000 feet) for a day. I remember one fellow hotel guest who said he was surprised when he arrived because he didn't envision Hawaii with mountains. (Um, yes, volcanoes, dude...lol) And my brother is already prewarning me that YES it will be cold in Florida in December and to pack accordingly! It's so funny to hear what people from out of state expect in another state.
I'm glad you had fun and are nice and dry! (We're not!)

This is TRUE. When my nephew moved to Northern California 6 years ago, we had actually driven across country in the summer time, so my first impression of California was that it was hot. In fact I remembered an episode of the New Mickey Mouse Club (from the '70's), where some of the kids had never seen snow. That, plus the image of the Beach Boys and the Annette movies always gave me the impression that it was always warm in California.
Until I went to visit my nephew in the Winter - and nearly froze, since I didn't realize it would be so cold out there! In fact, I have yet to take a trip to Disneyland in which I didn't need my coat or jacket!

Same with Florida - I visited there in the fall 10 years ago and was surprised that the temperatures had dropped so much that you needed a leather jacket. In fact, my sister who lives in Florida, has a fireplace! I never thought it would really be needed. But who knew?

Here in NY, it's either very Hot or Very Cold or Very In-Between.
